If someone prodded you enough times with a cow prod, you would admit to anything.

Can gloves please stop talking like a troll from discworld?

If I tortured you, would You tell me the truth or what I wanted to hear. See the problem. the other thing is, if they are telling the truth, they often die painfully or live in misary having done nothing to deserve the fate they recieve

Well this thread is going to be highly boring if no-one is going to disagree.

So. I now support torture.

What do you say to that, punks?

There's an element of revenge and deterrence attached to it, which the community values imo

I feel that torture has two virtues. These are more regarding torture as a form of criminal punishment, rather than torture as a means to collect information:

-It allows the national body to express immense range against individuals who have committed atrocious crimes against the community. It thus has a cathartic effect - the nation releases its anger upon the body of the sinful criminal.
-The ritualistic torture of the body provides a social setting within which the nation can reaffirm its commitment to particular laws. It this facilitates the establishment and collective support for social norms, and contributes to cohesion

Yes. Only torturing people who deserve it mind you. But I feel that community disrest about the high quallity treatment of criminals is reaching boiling point.

We need some way to release national anger upon those who have violated Our Norms.

Society has always needed sacrifices. Look what we do to celebrities! The media are like modern day high priests with pointy daggers etc at the top of some aweful pyramid. The audience waits with baited breath for the pornographic plunge!

we've always been into this sort of thing
