In a true free society one would put a claim that if 2+ adults consent to the idea of a polygamous marriage, it should be deemed allowable.
There are many societies across the globe which have progressed where a man can marry more than 1 wife (fucking LOL). In some states across USA, we see 1 man with as many as 5 wife's.

Discuss the pros and cons.

Financial viability of doing so?
Would all wives be eligible for dole payments?
If so, how to avoid unnecessary burdens on an already struggling economy?

If the male can financially support his wives, and he has the original wife's consent then I don't see any issues, but maybe I'm just speaking from a Muslim perspective....
Men are traditionally polygamous, which would probably explain why they're more likely to cheat, watch porn etc. If a man cheats and says something like "it was purely physical", he usually means it....I read this in a book anyway, and I think it made perfect sense....

Well, if it was in a book, of course it's true!

You know what the world really needs?

Some polandry.

wiki said:
Polyandry is a practice where a woman is married to more than one man at the same time. Fraternal polyandry was traditionally practiced among nomadic Tibetans in Nepal and parts of China, in which two or more brothers share the same wife, with her having equal sexual access to them. Polyandry is believed to be more likely in societies with scarce environmental resources, as it is believed to limit human population growth and enhance child survival. A woman can only have so many children in her lifetime, no matter how many husbands she has. On the other hand, a child with many "fathers", all of whom provide resources, is more likely to survive. (In contrast, the number of children would be increased if polygyny were practiced, and a man had more than one wife. These wives could be simultaneously pregnant).[3] It is a rare form of marriage that exists not only among poor families, but also within the elite.[4]

Word.

EDIT: If I legitimately want to marry two men and a woman, the government has no right to tell me not to, as long as it is the one regulating marriage.

What a wonderful notion!

To a large extent, I agree with Islam on the issue. I watched on youtube a famous Imam justify the need for 4 wives, not as a pure power trip, but through the fact that female numbers far outstrip males (hence there is not enough men for a single monagomous marriage to every female) therefore through this way, each woman still gets a man and does not have to result to fornication/adultery (this part I actually couldnt care about)

An interesting justification I say

But you're focussing on the man - screw gender ratios. If I want to marry three men, I should be able to; if an Islamic man can have four wives, his wives should be able to have four husbands.

Polygynandry!

edit; Advocacy is all fine and dandy but personally I'm not up for one.
Just thinking of all the issues arising out of such an arrangement makes me :esplode:

Would someone like to enlighten me in regards to the differences between marriages and de facto relationships?

It seems pretty the same to me, save the extra piece of paper you get.

but that would make you a slut?

Seriously though i dont know why op focussed on men so much. You're right, if men could be allowed to have multiple wives, shouldnt the wives be allowed to have multiple husbands.

This set up would create an unimaginable amount of interwined marriages and relationships

You're kidding right?

Marriage= Married
De Facto= partners, living together for over 5 years, un-married but together.
