You dont have to be into science to be able to pick that alot of religion is full of it's self and just crap. I think if i went to a public school i simply wouldnt care about it. After going to a Catholic school I now cant stand it. We are all forced to study at least 1 unit of re (yes i could go to a public school but there aren't any decent ones in my area plus friends etc) anyway having done christianity for 12 years now even my devout christian friend told me she was so sick of bloody boring christianity in school. Alot of it is for show and i dont see how any of it makes me a better person. I hope i dont offend anyone but when we were doing a judaism topic our teacher explained how kocher food laws were started because of the living conditions of the desert. No meat and milk products can ever touch. Ok it made sense then but we dont live in the desert anymore why still do it, if there is a god why would he care for such trivial things silly laws dont make you a better person! Besides people's faith are normally decided on which family and country they are born in. I'm not going to believe in something becuase it is the predominate faith just think with that attitude i might have been muslim or buddhist in another country. Anyway i think i've well and truly have my irrelevant rant that no one will take seriously for the day.

Why the hell did you post it then?

And you need to invest in a course of developing paragraph structure in writing.

+ I'm personally a strong theist, but I've noticed most of my friends at school who were brought up in Christian households have become open atheists:), don't hold anything against them, unless they begin attacking my faith.

this. the whole catholic school thing and everything. however, i bailed after four years. emilyo is much more tolerant evidently.

i'm atheist. everyone knows. noone cares. except maybe gibbo153 cause we have awesome chats about religion. also, same as moll. i'll only bring it up if it's relevant to the conversation. i don't force my beliefs, technically non-beliefs, upon anyone unless they force them upon me.

Usually I find Atheists ignorant and just closed off to the idea of faith, their ignorance is just that they choose to reject any kind of blind faith without proof but don't actively seek answes to why people choose these faiths. They just say, Fuck whatever you believe in... Whatever it is.

If you've read the Bible, Torah and Qu'ran and got absolutely nothing from them then You have every right to be an Atheist. That and some Atheists couldn't give you a coherent and sensible reason why A Billion Years ago.... there was nothing and then it Exploded. Those people don't deserve to call themselves Atheists.

Just suddenly deciding to be an Atheist without at least trying to look for some answers is just lazy and ignorant. Just picking the side that has no happy ending is just nihilistic.

Hench why I'm an agonostic... There might be a God, there might not. I'm still open to change.
Atheists can be arrogant, but I don't think ignorant is the word I would use. If anything, it is religious people who say "Fuck whatever you believe in... whatever it is... unless it's what I believe in." I've read the bible (NIV), but not the Qu'ran. I don't think I'd have to read either to call myself an Atheist.

To me, atheism is not a definitive belief that there are no deities, rather a lack of belief in deities. Belief, even belief as profound and important as "faith", is not a choice. I can't choose to believe in God any more that I can choose to believe that an apple is an apple, the HSC is the HSC, and you are a hypocritical git. If you don't believe in God, then you're an atheist. If you like calling other atheists ignorant for their lack of belief, then your also a jerk. All I know is that you are most definitely the latter.

NB: I don't know if I stated this clearly enough, but I am an atheist.

In the 2006 census:

25.8% Roman Catholic, 18.7% Anglican, 19.4% Other Christian
2.1% Buddhist, 1.7% Muslim, 0.4% Jewish, 2.0% other, 18.7% No Religion, 11.2% Not described. (2006 census)

The category of "No Religion" includes non-theistic beliefs such as humanism, atheism, agnosticism and rationalism. A fifth sub-category is "No Religion - nfd" ("nfd" = no further definition). The Australian Bureau of Statistics does not provide statistics on how many people belong in each sub-category on "No Religion".

yes

religion serves no purpose except to oppress others through the promise of an afterlife
