A guide to question 27/28??? (1 Viewer)

Hey,

Ok. Basically I want to start looking at the extended response part of the Business Studies paper. But, I have no idea where to begin? I know it has something to do with case studies etc. Could someone please enlighten me on:

i) The nature of this question
ii) The structuring of the essay (report format? etc)
iii) How do you address the question (Is it similar to the business report i.e. Q26?)
iv) In what form or manner do you link course course content with case studies?
v) Do you focus on one case study per question or refer to a few?

If anyone can help me with these questions and/or provide references as to where I might find information on the essay, it would very much be appreciated.

Also, does anyone know where I might find some sample questions with sample answers?

Ok. I've looked at those sample answers and papers on the board of studies website. But I can't seem to find any detailed references to case studies. I mean, every now and then, they do mention an organisation BRIEFLY, but it doesnt seem like much of a focus.

Basically I'm seeing it as a direct essay, simply presneting learnt information in a logical way. The maximum detail of any case study is 1-2 sentences. (Even in the Band 6 responses)

Thats wierd.. I've heard that the case studies are critical, and should be explored in depth. My teacher even said that you will not score more than 8 out of 20 if you cannot refer to case studies.

Could someone please further clarify the nature of the essay, as I'm a little hazy on the detail of case study reference required.

It's Band 5-6 response, meaning that it can range from 14-20. Case Studies must be represented with every point you make if you really want to hit 20.

Besides, you don't have to talk about your case studies for more than 2 lines or so...i mean it's supposed to be just an example you know.

That's what I needed to hear. So the focus isn't in fact the case study itself. It's simply a means of proving or providing supporting evidence for your analysis. Am i right?

No, that isn't correct.

The sample responses are "typically produced by students whose achievements place them on the borderline between two bands". So choosing the option Band 5/6 allows you to view the responses of a sample of students at that borderline.

The exemplar student responses are "examples of responses that were awarded full marks".

Yep. I was wondering. In those 5/6 responses there wasn't too much of a focus on the case studies themselves. These exemplar students really focus on the case study and provide a more detailed analysis (that is, not like 1 or 2 sentences like the others....). I think that's what I need to do.

I don't know for sure. But yes, to me they sound like 16-17ish responses.
