Hello, question for HSCers (1 Viewer)

I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who kinda epic failed their junior years at high school but did well in the HSC or are doing quite well in terms of their marks and ranks so far. I'm curious because apparently most of my teachers/other students believe that if you don't do well in your junior years, you would almost certainly not do well in the senior years, where it really counts.

Your teachers are correct to a small degree.
Your junior years act as the foundation for the prelim. and HSC years. You could screw up years 9-10 but that does not mean you can't bounce back and pwn everyone in prelims or more importantly, the HSC.

I screwed up the junior years by ignoring the importance of education as well as going to a dodgy school lolz. But I changed schools and I'm slowly bouncing back.

You don't need to worry lol, seeing as you're in year 10.

I did pretty badly years 7-10, after i changed schools, i started to do much much better. So no, my academic crapness as a junior had absolutely no affect on my HSC.

i know people in my school who bludged through all 7-10 and enjoyed life. They started to pick up their game in yr 11 and now in yr 12 they are really acing it

Okay, thanks guys, I'm currently in year 10 as most of you have figured out but I'm not too good in my assessments in certain subjects like history and geography, which I probably won't do in yrs 11 and 12. (mite do modern)

So if I'm not too good in subjects that I'm not even going to do, like history and geography, does it mean that it's going to have an adverse effect in yrs 11 and 12?

Although I kinda do wish I studied a bit more in Year 11 (I completely failed Year 10 and first half of Year 11)

you can change. I knew a guy that was doing pretty badly, but in year 11 and 12 he went super hard core and ended up getting above a very high UAI, 98+.

so yea its possible, but i'd say this is a rare case

My story's a little different. I studied like a harry in junior years and now that i'm in senior hs I'm soo burnt out, when it really matters Better knuckle down...

what I'm saying is... it doesnt really matter what you do now although it is important to establish good study habits. just know that it only gets harder and plan ahead!

I know a lot of people who mucked around quite a bit as juniors but really picked up their game in years 11 and 12, i don't think its that rare at all... people start to realise 'right, school is actually important now' and just get on with it. I think the ability to specialise in subjects that you actually want to do plays a big part in the spike in motivation as well.

i failed in junior years, but i wasn't like bottom 30/200 to top 30/200,

more like getting better every half yearly a few times b4 yr 11

Well people usually put a lot more effort into their studies in years 11 and 12. If you arent going very well in junior high, dont worry cause you can get your grades back up if you are really committed to doing it and not just kinda want to do better. Year 12 is a committment and if you want a good mark, you have to put in the work. Dont expect to do well if you dont put the work in because a very very small minority can actualy do really well without breaking their back with work.

Hehehe, there's this girl in our school. She like, aced pretty much everything from years 7-11. Now she's not doing very well. Hehehe, half the smart-ish people laugh at her behind her back. Hehehe.

yeah, it's possible. my stepmother used to have her own corner to go sit in in primary school, lol, and it didn't get much better after that. she totally blew her junior years, then knuckled down in year eleven and twelve (i mean REALLY knuckled down, even went back to stuff she was learning in her first few years of high school), and ended up going really well. Now she's got two degrees and a top managers position.
keep motivated, keep everything in perspective, and you'll do fine.

Generally no, a lot people gets serious once hsc begins, you need to give yourself time to mature, that's all.
