Hi,

I hope someone can give me some feedback on what do they think of my perception of static electricty

From my understanding when two objects are in contact there is a transfer of electrons.
Now, what i dont get is that, why do they have to be neutrally charged objects in the first place. If they are neutrally charged then how can an atom attract another atom (since it already has a full outer shell)...

Whenever an object is neutral charge it has equal amounts of positive and negative charge hence it is in equilibrium with no clear polarisation observable or recordable.
By simply earthing an object the possibility of a charged object either + or - can become neutral by releasing these excess electrons(- charge object) into the earth or by drawing them up if it is a + charged object.

If and I assume this is what you mean...that you get two neutral objects and bring them near each other, then there should be NO force of attraction or repulsion as both object are balanced already.

Your last sentence is FALSE.

Yeah, but howcome when a neutral rod and neutral silk come in contact, the rod becomes positley charged and silk negatively charged. If they were initially neutral, why does one become postively charged and the other negatively ?

This occurs through charging by friction not by contact.

By simply touching two neutral object together there is no charge distribution/polarisation that occurs.... they are neutral to begin with and will be neutral afterwards as well. If however, they are charged by friction i.e. electron shell interaction of atoms, then polarisation will occur and hence the objects become charged.

Remember silk and perspex after friction:
Perspex = + charge Silk = - charge
