I'm wondering if anyone here has applied for the next training school which starts on 30th June.

I've applied on 20/5/09 and got an email back 2 days later saying thanks for my application and suitable applicants will be contacted. I've yet to receive a call to go in for an interview.

There's briefings scheduled for 2nd, 3rd and 4th june, anyone know what goes on in the briefings and whether it means you've not been chosen if you don't receive a call to go in for an interview before those briefings?

Can anyone who have applied or have been a dealer before explain the process, such as how long it takes for them to call you back after you have applied.

I haven't applied but I was really tempted to cos I reckon it would be a fucking sick job but you have to be available for them 24/7.

I guess the best thing to do would be to call them and follow it up. The worst that can happen is that they'll say you were unsuccesful...which I reckon is better to know then to sit around waiting for the phone to ring.

My mate was in the Jan/Feb training school but he dropped out when he realised it wasn't for him. Be expected to make a lot of mathematical calculations in your head very quickly and they do prefer people with 24/7 availability. Good luck!

I worked as a dealer for a couple of years at Crown and it sounds as if the process is very similar.

The info session will be explaining the nature of the work and the requirements of availability, physical and mental skills, and it may involve some mathematical testing. After this you will go for an interview and they may test your dexterity to ensure you are capable of learning the skills of the game.

If you are successful at the first interview you will be recalled and interviewed again. They are looking for your customer service skills. Emphasize things such as wanting customers to have fun and that you understand the industry is about providing an experience.

As a student job working in a casino is great except for night shift which is unavoidable. You are probably not going to be able to study full-time if you are working as a croupier without it seriously impacting on your grades. For a while it is fun though and the pay and experience is better than other student hospitality work.

Thanks for the detailed information, do you know whether there is certain criteria you have to meet in the first interview in order to be chosen for a second interview and if you are chosen for the second interview does that basically mean you've been chosen into training school?

Can you explain further why your friend felt it wasn't for him? Was there alot of people selected into training school or were there a cut off limit?

I do not know the specific criteria beyond my own experiences and talking with other workers. I would suggest you leave any moral qualms you might have at the door. Maths is likely to be tested but I doubt that many people 'fail' the test based on numeric ability. As a rule the maths test is checking your ability to follow instructions. If they say 'do not skip any questions', then do not skip a question even if you get stuck. Take the time you need to work it out. In a gaming environment, they would rather you work slowly and accuracy than try and keep pace and make mistakes which cost the company money.

In the interview emphasize any customer service skills you have and really drive home how you love customer service. It sounds ridiculous but that is what they want to hear and if they are interviewing 200+ people you making their job easier will help you out. Also, it costs a casino in Australia several thousand dollars just to get a dealer ready to hit the gaming floor, as such, they are looking for longevity. I would have prepared answers about why you left your previous jobs and how long to you intend to stay in this one. Although they are understanding that students will move into their field of study post graduation, it doesn't hurt to say that you will be staying for the duration of your studies.

My friend is a croupier. He works insane hours and pretty much never sleeps. He looks like death most days.
