The NSW govt. is raising the school leaving age from 15 to 17. Personally, I think this is unwarranted. Students are being forced to stay at school for longer than they want to. That means the significant chunk of idiots who would normally drop out are now being crammed into schools, putting a strain on already overstretched resources.

I agree its a waste, but with the current economic conditions, a lot of school leavers are probably going on the doll, so it might be a lot more effective to redirect the doll money into schools.

i do feel sorry for those of you that will have to endure another few years of loud mouth idiots

That's fairly useless, because increasing the volume of dumb students isn't going to reduce the difficulty of gaining ranks at the higher level. Especially when those dumb students are going to be disruptive and drag down the rest of the class.

you know right that once the age goes up, it wont come down. Also there gonna go on the doll anyways, just delaying it another 2 years. Also most drop out level kids will be like oh only a few months left until HSC, might aswell stay.

i was under the impression that they're introducing a heap more schools that include courses where you learn a trade whilst at school (cant remember technical term for this). so it gives these people another option, rather than just dropping out

though overall, it really doesnt affect me, so my care factor is minimal.
Govt plans 10 years ahead, wait like 10 years.

Probably a better idea is to shunt all the otherwise dropouts to go to trade schools, because if they stay at a normal high school they're probably going to pick 'easy' subjects and just waste time.

The syllabus is going to be shit on, when people start complaining that the fail rates are too high, not knowing that its due to more dumb people rather than increase in content difficulty.

I completely agree that those losers staying are going to waste teachers resources as well as disrupting classes and ultimately pull your marks down (possible). But since it's not coming into practise in 2011?, it won't affect me. I just feel so sorry for the current 9 & 10. :mad1:
