Kind of pissed at ENGG1000 seeing as I forgot an easy 9% assignment. Physics I'm stoked and for Computing I'm stoked as I was like fuckin DEAD (sick) for the exam.

excited.

T1 GENC6001 An Introduction to Marketing.....68 CR
T1 MMAN1300 Engineering Mechanics............52 PS

FUCK YEEEEEAH, so happy i passed mechanics! i was so sure i'd get exactly 50, or 48-49 and PC, but no i just HAD to pass outright, awesome, thanks god, promise i'll work hard next sem
Thanks omie jay. Worked my ass off for the finals when I heard olsen say that 50% failure rate is quite common. Only got 31/50 for the mid session (which was a copying fest -.- everyone I know got 40+. Should've copied during the mid sess and get that HD lol).

I probably used to ask the same question... but it's really not about studying a lot, i try and study as less as possible (this doesn't mean i don't study - no study, no marks)

It's all about having a plan.

Overall strategy:
--You study when there is a need
--You study the right content (think of the prize - e.g. there is $1500 in cash prizes for FINS3635)
--You read the lecture notes throughout the weeks - take time reading them, ditch the book.
--You attend lectures - tutes are useless, they are taught by students just like you (some people can go without the lecture... but personally, i hate reading books - so i avoid that as much as i can).
--Get the easy marks. (tutorial participation is a joke)
--Don't even try and memorise (this is only for courses about concepts- obviously you need to memorise history), if you see you need to memorise something - it is probably because you don't understand it - find out why & you will never forget it.
--Remember the buzz words. The people who mark the exams are students - they could potentially understand the subject less than you. They are given a marking guideline and to cut time, they search for buzz words (finance has a lot of them)
--Never study the night before. Never study before the exam.
--Be CCC - Cool, Calm, Collective

Tactical work:
--Find out what the lecturer thinks is important. (a lot of the lecturers are narrow minded and like what they research, their own philosophy and other biases)
--Learn from past assessment. This gives you a lot about the lecturer's style. It will help you find out what to study.
--Read the course outline, i used to never do that.

may i ask what you do the night before?? wouldnt it be benificial to go over some problems just one more time? or maybe u know "everything" so u dont need it...

one of my teachers in high school said that one should spend the day before an exam relaxing - like reading a good book (i.e. not a textbook) or whatever you do to relax.. since its better to feel calm on the day...

of course i always try to heed his advice but there's nothing like failing to listen to good advice!

Ok, let's change this..

no new content the night before. Better?

You can to redo problems you have already done, or read lecture notes that you have already read.

The only reason that I don't do it is because I don't want to worry if I missed something. Also, when you are put in a stressful situation you act irrationally - e.g. you convince yourself something that is not part of the course will be examined.

But trust me - marks are not everything... not even close.

I did six 6uoc subjects this semester. It's not the most pleasant of experiences. Unfortunately I'll probably be doing the same again next semester.

Yeah, thought maths was quite easy, so I just brushed through it. pretty sure my raw mark is higher than that, cause if 58's my raw mark, that means I failed the final exam, which I'm pretty sure I didn't. Oh well, at least 2100 makes up for it. Thought I was just gonna get a pass for that.
