i think we have to look at the demographics of the typical tripple J target audience though too, to explain why this is such a dismal list.

tbh i can think of like, 100 awesome songs that were released before the 90s

the hilltop hoods do not compare with the moody blues, imo.

Layla was a love song he wrote for George Harrison's wife and even if people don't know the song by name the riff is very, very ubiquitous. Tears in Heaven is about his dead son.

If people don't know the songs names then they won't be voting for it will they, hence not being on a list of songs that are chosen from personal favourites, where majority dominates minority.
