i believe public schools are better as you can meet a wide variety of people. from the poor to rich. While in private ur filled with rich snobs just talking about wat they are going to spend next. So when they get out of the private skool and face the real world they will b shocked that it isnt all about money. and your parents cant support u 4eva.

What that is trying to say is:

Private School= Rich people

Public School= Poor people + Intermediate people + Rich people

The Community= Poor people + Intermediate people + Rich people

There is no connection between private school and the community.

You're entitled to that opinion.

... as you can meet a wide variety of people. from the poor to rich.
You can do that in a private school. How do you know private schools don't have any poor people? You're conforming to stereotypes....which is just as bad as moneyequalsmarks.

Wrong again - stereotype that private schools are filled with rich snobs = not true.

Private School= Rich people
Wrong.

A lot of parents work their buts off and make sacrifics (eg. less holidays) because they believe that their children will get a better education at a private school or are under the perception that a particular private school will instil religious values.

private school not equal to rich, privileged, rolling in money ppl

Source: Having attended 2 public schools, 4 catholic schools, 1 christian school

Edit: It rlly does help your case if (when you're not abbreviating or using internet slang) you at least use correct spelling and grammar

If you honestly think that - you're more idiotic than I thought. Parents do sacrifice a lot for their kids. Education is a number one priority in a lot of families.

whilst i agree with the whole notion on

'private schools raise snobby people' ladida

i think that your company strongly influences who you become; whether you knowlingly accept that or reject that is a matter of opinion.

with that said, i still rate them better than public schools, but below selective schools (with exception of course), plainly because in some public schools, pursuit for knowledge comes second to the guy who banged the most people last friday (which i suppose is meritable in its own right).

id much rather my children snobby, than brutish philanders. As much as i truly hate sydney grammar, that's probably where id want my children to go.

can we split public schools in to two categories? selective public schools and non-selective public schools as those two categories would work well.

imo, private schools are better than non-selective public schools in terms of marks etc but selective public schools are generally better than private schools in terms of marks.

However, private schools have a different dimention to their teaching in that private schools tend to focus on other aspects of the student's lives like pastoral care and extra-cirricular activities.

@OP: when you say out of the top 10 schools and only 3 are private you need to realise that all 8 public schools in the top ten are selective schools. they have the smartest kids to work with and their teachers are pushed to pump their kids full of educational knowledge. nevermind it has no real value in the real world - as long as it gets their school an average of 98 thats all that matters.

as a non-sydney student (and ive never been in sydney, ive always been 5 hrs away) i reckon that if u are going to make distinctions between schools you cant just say public or private. where i live we have one selective public school (boys ag boarding) which is terrible and has serious issues and only semi ok facilities. we've also got a catholic (non-selective) school, which is ok, a selective anglican school (seen by most other people as snobby), a christian (non-selective) school (mine, which i love and most people think is a cult but has good results) and 3 non-selective public schools which vary from good to terrible. so i think you need to take into account other things. in a rural area most people dont have as much money as in sydney or other cities. i think it has more to do with the people in the schools and the teachers in the schools than what type of school it is.

Well, pretty much, the public/private debate is endless....just go to the school which suits what you believe makes a good school...and be done with it. :p

You can't make generalisations. There are good private schools. There are bad private schools.

With public schools, schools such as James Ruse or Baulko are good. But then again, you have to think why? They have the state's brightest kids. Same with private schools. Some private schools do well because they have good students. Some do poor because they have bad students. It doesn't make a difference, as long as you feel comfortable where you are.

Private school students shouldn't look down on their state counterparts. However, public school students shouldn't always badmouth private school kids. Most of you haven't actually been to a private school and somehow have developed a sense of hatred because the schools have better resources. Why do they have better resources? Because parents pay for it - whether you need them to succeed is a different debate all together. Also a lot of you consider all private school kids 'snobby'. I can tell you, I'm from Western Sydney, and most private school kids aren't snobby down here. It's like buying a car. Anything with four wheels will do, however some wish to go one step better - that's their choice and you shouldn't criticise people for doing so.

Wow Nathan, that's got to be the most, 'senseful' reply on this thread haha. :p

But I figured you already know why I don't like private schools. ;)

Yeah, but then the agenda of how much state funding is allocated to public and private schools comes up. Its not as clear cut as 'they have better resources because their parents pay for it'.

So basically, as a selective private school which is primarily self funded, grammar wins.

:)

I go to a private school
And I can tell you
The people there are no better or worse (academically, socially, financially) than those from Public schools
Our fundraising and school fees go towards building useless buildings and the teacher's air conditioning
But that's only my school

And theres also the emphasis on PERFECT uniform

They why not go to a public school. No difference according to you. Just more expensive. :)

It's hard to say that Ascham, as an example, is for/in reach of typical lower working class parents.. so there is validity to the argument, that private schools are more generally more affluent people.
