Thank you for completing the online assessment. This was the final stage of the short listing process.

Short listing will occur by 15 September 2009.

Now is the time to start preparing for the ultimate 12 month challenge.

If you are shortlisted you will be required to provide proof of what you have already told us.

You will need to source your full birth Certificate, highest level of education results (semester 1, year 12 as a minimum) and proof of Citizenship if not born in Australia.

More details will be provided in the near future, or you can refer to our website.

Do i need to ring them up to book a YOU session or will they email me when to go there in 1-2weeks?

Yeh Auraden, after that e-mail reply you should get one soon about ur YOU session.

my mate from school had his assesment day today, said he found it really easy cause he studied up heaps on the job he wanted to go for and just tried to be himself and stay calm...

they told him he should get an offer for enlistment in the next few months, but they were really pleased with him, so basically yeh from now people are starting to get accepted into the program...
I just hope i'm one of them!!!!!!

only trouble is, i was hoping to avoid applying to uni's, because the applications open next week (for Victoria) but now i'll have to go though the gruelling/annoying process of choosing courses and applying in case i dont get into the Gap year

yea i've stdied up heaps bout the job i have chosen and i have also reasearched all the rules and stuf about the army and were u train and ur pay and all that stuff. the only thing im worried about at this stage is being to late in sending my application... im so excited!@

my friend is going in for a YOU session tomoz at 11:30 am but he not doin a gap year application he just doing it a normal way

Yeh auraden, i did my YOU session a few weeks ago.

like most people said, its a walk in the park lol, long as u know ur basic algebra and stuff

i was gunna have my assesment session today but one of the medical forms i sent in hadn't been processed yet so its been delayed for a few weeks

but i wouldnt worry bout ur application, many of my friends sent in theirs the day applications opened and they still havent got a reply about their YOU session!
i think the defence ppl are definately taking their time this year to ensure they get the right people.

i have alrdy done the aptitude test online... is the 1 on the YOU session the same? and i hope i dont turn out like ur freind waiting for like months to get a YOU session.

nah the aptitude test at the YOU session is different....theres a general component which has sorta 'what does this word mean' thing or which number comes next in the sequence.

then after that you do a maths test which has basic algebra, trigonometry and fraction sorta questions.

i wouldnt worry though, if ur in year 12 and you do maths it'll be easy as

YOU session aptitude testing is piss easy, you can't fail. When I went for mine, I expected some tough stuff, but ended up coming out of there with 197/197. The most important thing is working fast and accurately. You're not going to get asked to solve a quadratic equation - it's just long mathematical operations, that you need to be able to do in your head, quickly.

There's also a vocab section, so you should brush up on that.

i just called up to see wats going on i told them that i am applying for the adf gap year and that i have done the online tests then i said how long untill i get a YOU session.. then the girl said u willl get a email about short liisting and it can take up untill that date on their. did all u guys get a short listing email aswell???

yeh my mate finished his assesment day on tuesday and i got mine on friday, very nervous, about to call up my case manager cause u have to do a 'mock' interview before the real one so they can tell you what to improve on

hey stallion how come you have already done your osb/fsp etc and you're in year 11?

i thought you had to be in year 12 for 2010 entry...and i didn't think 2011 entry was open yet...

The minimum age for entry into ADFA is 17 years, so applications for ADFA are open to anyone who meets the required age to go to ADFA, it's not done on a yearly basis. I finished FSP at Tamworth recently, in the Advanced stream, with the OSB on the last two days in the two weeks for FSP. I'm hoping for B.Tech(Avn), but the problem is that if you fail at being a pilot in ADFA/fail your subjects, you come out with no degree, if you do something like BSc or B.Bus, you can still fail the flying sections and at least still come out with a degree, therefore you haven't wasted 2-3 years at ADFA.

Stallion you lucky son of a.!

I always wanted to/still want to be a pilot, sadly I haven't got advanced 2unit maths, just the gen math. Any tips on how to bridge that gap?

Help appreciated.

When I went for my specialist testing, 3/20 of us passed. One of those guys was my age, and he did general maths in high school, just like yourself. Now, I know that it does say that you need 2U or greater for a pilot course, but it's weird... if he can beat 17 other people, some who looked >30 years old, and some uni students, then general maths really should be fine.

However, I doubt the ADF will change their policy on this, but it would be good for you to give them a call and explain your situation. The only sort of thing I would normally reccomend is a bridging course of some sort, but I doubt the ADF would recognise it. :S

What position are you applying for, and Officer or general entry?

I'll be able to give more help when I know what sort of position, but something which a lot of people neglet to learn is the ADF harrassment and drug policies, as well as holidays/leave. For example:

9 days long service leave a year after 10 yrs service
4 weeks leave annually
(if applying for positions such as pilot, there's extra stuff like flying leave)

Things which I said for the harassment policy was just affirming in my interviewers mind that I understood the policy, and that the ADF follows Australian federal law/legislation.

So really, it's just a lot of memorising, and honesty.

i'm going for a rifleman under the GAP year program, so dunno if its similar to an assesment day for an officer entry? thanks for the tip about harrassment policies, any other tips would be much appreciated.

a few questions i have for anyone who can help:

do we use the M18A1 claymore and grenades during recruit training, or is that just once at employment training?

is it only the army that does recruit training at Kapooka?

what we learn at employment training (website just says infantry tactics/weapons/equipment...any extra info???

what can we expect to do and learn once employment training is complete?

Cheers buddy. Now I'm curious as to how he was allowed to sit for the flight testing exam with Gen Math!

I'll get back in the ADF joining plans once I start going gym, after having satisfaction with body growth from the gym-ing.
