But srsly, sounds pretty terrible, although it could simply be a communication breakdown. Israel lost quite a few of its own troops from friendly fire during Operation Cast Lead as a result of communication mishaps. Or it could be like the American soldiers in Vietnam, clearing out villages and not knowing who was a civilian and who was an enemy (many of them just went crazy and shot everything) etc. etc.
Most of those soldiers were young men who didn't want to be there, they're not going in there with the attitude of "ok guys, as soon as it seems as the U.N aren't looking, kill all civilians" as seems to be many peoples perception. Indeed, many civilians were clearly killed, I am just saying this was more due to an overzealous air force than malicious ground forces.
