Bachelor of International (and Global Studies)/ Law (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I have been interested in studying law at university for a long time, and I want to study a combined degree, with a focus on international law/relations and languages.

I have heard from other boreders that the Bachelor of International and Global Studies (offered at places like USyd and UTS) or the Bachelor of International Studies is just a "glorified Arts degree". Is this true? In terms of international recognition, is BIGS/BIntStud worth it over Arts?

I'm thinking that the main idea of International Studies is to specialise in the global focus, which is what I want to do. Comments?

And if anyone out there has a REAL definitive answer for the best university to study combined BIGS/Law, your help would be greatly appreciated.

My preferences include the following:

1. USyd (Bachelor of International and Global Studies/ Bachelor of Laws)
2. UNSW (Bachelor of International Studies/ Bachelor of Laws)
3. UTS (Bachelor of International and Gloabal Studies/ Bachelor of Laws)
4. USyd (Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Laws)
5. UNSW (Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Laws)
6. UTS (Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Laws)
7/8/9 - Macquarie? ANU? Wollongong? UNE?

Opinions, please! In terms of career opportunites, links to the industry (domestic and international), exchange and extra-curricular options, reputation, focus on international law, quality of teaching etc.

i don't see ANU on that list...

i would think that ANU, being the 'national' university, would have the best programs for international law/relations...

UTS is really good for international studies but Usyd is better for law. But UTS is not bad for law.

It's not a glorified arts degree - it's just an arts degree. Arts degrees are not bad things, especially not when combined with law. People who bitch about arts students are often frustrated and bitter engineering and business undergraduates with no life experience or insight but like writing things on toilet doors about arts degrees.

Go for it. I think that sounds like an excellent career path and not dissimilar to where I'm at at the moment (Arts grad, lived overseas and doing law at the moment). It's that almost impossible to find place between enjoying what you do and being passionate about it but still having good career prospects.

I have seriously considered ANU, I'm just not sure about moving down to Canberra. But yes, I should have said before, ANU is also on my list.

Bachelor of law is good study and also has high scope in the future. Many people are going to start this study in next year. You should also start it. http://www.biseresult.pk/ba-bsc.html
