What the fuck is this? Do Aussies really care that much about global warming that this Mr sheen the tool needs to propagate to the world every single fucking time there is a G- x meeting?

ffs, there are REAL issues that AUSTRALIANS actually care about. Hey, im not saying global warming is not important but the way Rudd is going on about it he seems to believe that's all we care about. Fuck rudd. srsly.

Kyoto was a waste of time. People lie and the targets, goals and promises were never made or kept. Governments suck.

a) Australia will be one of the most, if not the most, hard hit countries by global warming
b) He's mentioning global warming, sure, but I don't see him making a big fuss about it any more than he's supposed to. I hear more about Telstra/broadband or the stimulus package than I do the environment.

I just think you're blowing it out of proportion.

Plus, it was one of the big things that got him elected over Howard...his promises to make climate change a priority. It was a big thing at the time, he's not gonna let go of it in a hurry. Also, what with other developed nations viewing it with such importance, it'd look pretty stupid if Rudd didn't.

Now, I know it's going to sound EXTREMELY cliche, but global warming is one of the most important issues in the world, one which needs to be immediately addressed. Rudd's decision to follow the same road as many other world leader's doesn't surprise me, in fact it appeals to me (unlike some of his other policies).

About a month ago I was actually a delegate at the United Nations Youth Association council in Chatswood, NSW. Some alarming facts were presented to me... The most shocking being that countries like Sri Lanka could be underwater entirely within as little as twenty years.

So Rudd's initiative in combatting climate change does have its foundations... or maybe he just bought a scuba diving suit, planned to go on a holiday, then became PM and had no use for the suit, so he has to stop Australia from being flooded over.

If countries really are faced with so soon the prospect of being underwater, then what is being discussed, even if it were to be acted upon fully, would not be enough to save them.

Oh for fuck's sake that's the same alarmist rhetoric that gives the deniers fodder. You're as bad as the SMH the other day "THIS IS GLOBAL WARMING"

The fact of the matter is that all sea-rise estimates are effectively targeted guesswork because it is such a complex system.

Sea-rises are, to be fairly honest, relevant in the situation only to the degree which they affect the nitrogen cycle and the biosphere.

In order for Australia to be flooded over there'd have to be a sea rise of something like 250M

CO2 IS INNOCENT! Do your homework. CO2 cannot increase atmospheric temperatures the way IPCC says. As CO2 concentration increases its heating effect decreases to a point where it has NO heating effect. There is no scientific base left for the Anthropogenic Global Warming theory - it has all proved unsupportable. The concensus of scientists now appears to be that CO2 does NOT drive atmospheric temperature changes. Do your homework - do not believe the people who want to profit ENORMOUSLY from a carbon trading scheme that will ultimately have no useful effect! We need to find the REAL drivers of our changing climate. Thanks Bjorn.
