mmm... maybe a little bit, maybe more like its closer to 91-93 than 95 Raw to get 95. At the top end is does get alot harder to get a higher mark e.g. the difference between 90 and 95 in MX1 would be like 15 marks or close to.
Hmm, probably not. 92/105 for 95 scaled? That's only 87% raw. Unless you mean 92% raw gets scaled to 95, which seems more likely.

No i meant 92/105 Raw= 95 Hsc mark. If you look at the trends you will see there is alot less scaling at the higher end. There would be even less scaling would have taken place to obtain a 98 over a 95. The top mark of 2008 was either 99 Hsc mark or only one person got 100 Hsc mark, "*CCC* (some Bos user) got 2nd in the state last year and got 99 i believe. So my guess is she would have got 100+/105 raw.

yeah English (Advanced) doesnt scale that well but scales REALLY well in your UAI- your final mark that is.

As a rough guide (being conservative) 85% in English (Advanced) Scales to Band 6 (90).

there was 5 guys in our school got over 100 out of 105, and 10 more guys got like 97 +, and i thought our trials were pretty hard. also got them marked by HSC marker, and yeh i was surprised as well.

and btw, one guy got 105/105 and another got 104/105. :jaw:

and they say, our year is more maths based.
Meh, it really just depends how difficult your school marks because English can definitely be subjective, for example our English teacher rarely gives out A range marks.

@OP: It's not much worth reading most of this advice, people can't even tell the difference between aligning and scaling. But 97-98 sounds too high...

+1

But I guess it can give the OP a general idea.

Really? I believe that seems about right.
Remember, it's 97-98/105, which comes to 92-93% raw. That's like getting 14/15 for paper 1 tasks, and 18-19/20 for paper 2. That seems believable to me...

so does a raw mark of ~ 70 equate to a low-mid band 4??

Gee, if that's true then ~25 kids will be getting a band 6 at my school. Usually we get ~15 kids getting a band 6... but we do have a smart grade this year XD
Lol, I got higher than 81/105 for my prelim exam and the teachers at my school mark at the bastard levels of the century (they must mark beyond HSC difficulty)...

Apparently it looks though I'm looking for about 92 in Advanced English at the moment. ^_^ cool. I bet I can improve on that.

I am feeling a lot more positive now about my marks in English - I thought for sure I'd have to work my arse off really hard to just achieve a band 6, this means I'm hovering on just about getting in. I'm pleased but will continue to push it.

That's why we have been making approximation though, just to give the OP a general idea.
I believe the OP has raised a very significant speculative question, that is in the interests of many high achievers here on BOS, not only the OP himself.

---

I would probably agree that 97-98/105 would scale to 95 give or take 1-2.

Hmm, either your school is gun at English, or essays are marked relatively easy.

You didn't realise you fell in that same boat of idiots he was referring to?

-1 for being an idiot
-2 for not realising you're an idiot.

Hey, you're that desperate guy who loves insulting me in an attempt to gain some attention and recognition.

If if makes you feel big and tough calling me an idiot, that's fine.

Just remember that it's a big world out there. One day, you will need to grow up.

Looking forward to your next lame reply...

Our top was 97.5, and we're a top 10 school. I doubt many can get over 100, if its marked properly (and judging on the difficulty of the exam. Ours looked tough, Sydney Boys looked really tough, Ascham was easy.)

Anything over 100 should be a state ranking, judging on our school's past marks.
