hsc doesn't equal life, so you guys shouldn't panic so much. and you two seem to be hard workers so i don't think you have to worry too much, anyway. i'm sure you guys will do fine.

There are various alternate entry schemes into university. Alternativley, if you dont get into the course you want to, you can always get into a lower related course and work your way up from there. The HSC is not some absolute test that decides your destiny. Where there' s a will there's always away. Why beat yourself up about things that aren't that important?

It takes like a year to start in a shit course then transfer- in the big scheme of things that really isn't a long time. If you're smart about it you can transfer the credit over from that course to the new one, so its not really a waste of time either.

I was merely pointing out that if they fail their HSC their hopes and dreams arent all shattered. Also technically speaking time indeed does slow down significantly if we are travelling at relativistic speeds.

Seriously guys, stop stressing about year 12, it is not as bad as it is made out to be.It's sad to hear comments like 'im scared shitless' 'its so scary', 'hello pain and stress' because you really shouldn't feel that way.

In all honesty i think year 11 is harder than year 12 due to the transition in workload from year 10. Year 12 is just like an extension of year 11 with the HSC at the end. It's surrounded by this ridiculous hype that it it is the ultimate test in willpower, nerves, discipline etc and causes unbelievable amounts of stress and panic. This is simply not true, your HSC year will only be as stressful as you decide to make it. It is not easy as such, but it is nowhere near as bad as is made out.

And please don't think of the HSC exams as this super difficult obstical to overcome, they teach you everything you need to know to do them and by the time you get around to doing past papers its like 'hey, i can actually do this, i know the answers, this really isnt so bad'.

I'm willing to bet that half of the "omg soo scared" comments are because of parents and the undue importance they put on the HSC.

I doubt it. My parents aren't strict... more lenient and encouraging than anything.
It's a combination of what I've heard, past exam experiences and factual information, for example universities that form our fear imho.

yeah. it's a combination of past exam experiences for me. I ranked 100/160 for English last year, and I'm now 1st/95. For maths, I was 30/160 last year, and now I'm 3rd/90. It's amazing how I went from a nobody to someone on the news now. and I would hate to start dropping in ranks, to have people fully diss me.

soooo scared. soooo scared of growing up, doing the hsc and so terrified of being out there in the real world. The HSC will be over very soon. It will come by faster than the speed of sound. and then.... we'll be out in the real world, away from school, away from friends and away from teachers - to begin a new life on our own.

This very idea frightens me.

Yes ext 1 has to be a prerequisite for ext 2

my marks:

Maths 3u: 93% => 3rd place
Ancient History: 100% => 1st place
religion: 94% => 3rd place
English Standard: 80% => 2nd place.

All good, except Maths. Maths was disappointing. I hope to improve more by next year

In the yearly maths exam and english exam, the majority of people improved by 20%. I improved by 0% in Maths. sure, it was still one of the top marks, but someone is going to outshine me one day.

I have learnt the entire Year 12 2U Maths course. I have three more topics left in Year 12 3U. namely, binomial theorem, simple harmonic motion and inverse functions.

haha, I really shouldn't be doing this, but other people seem to define me by my academic performance. (maybe because I act stupid all the time, and so people think I'm stupid unless I get good marks) I think I had an episode of depression last year because I averaged 40% in English. I shouldn't be defining myself by academic performance but my academic performance affects my health (aka family relationships + self esteem + the way others perceive me)

That's really fucked up you know, i think this is one of the worst things about the hype that surrounds the HSC, students come out of highschool with no skills to deal with anykind of academic failure healthily.

My modern history teacher thinks the HSC is a load of crap as well, kinda funny.

But when you think about it, the hsc and exams in general don't provide students with the social adequacy or skills needed in the 'real life'... all it does is create nerdy non-social freaks for the most. On the other hand, school deals with that tho. I've heard over and over again from journalists to engineers that nowadays employers look at your potential and skills rather than a stupid sheet of paper certified by the BOS. A good example is a friend I know, who received a UAI of 70, not even close the cut-off of 95 or so required for Journalism, yet he works for The Leader these days.

Nevertheless, I'm still shitting myself.
