This is really dumb, but for me and my bro it was Banjo Tooie. It was a game on Nintendo 64, the sequel to Banjo Kazooie. It was about a bear and a witch, how scarey lol. We turned it on, tried to play the first level, got so scared we turned it off we never played it again!

they were a main part of my childhood

Not many really scary games to be honest, although System Shock was fairly creepy...........

Only cos I was little at the time but when I got to level 12/13 under tristram in diablo 1 and one of them salamander things came outta no where and scared the fuck outta me I didn't play again for like 6 months.
Then I start wanderin around again and a bunch of moonlord dudes came and scared the fuck outta me so it was a few months after that I got back on and killed Big D.

i was massively disappointed with doom 3, i downloaded it 3/4 way thru 2008 and played it one night.

not. scary.

i still firmly stand by AVP2, that stuff gave me nightmares when i first played it (i was 13)

Left 4 dead. The campaign starts in a dark room, and you can only see where the flashlight is moving. When you shine on those zombies..

Gotta love the cinematic effects.
