I don't know if you're saying that in a "OF COURSE that's the reason, idiot. It wouldn't be anything else" kind of way....I mean if you are I don't think it is that obvious, I am very surprised/curious to hear people would move out of Sydney just for ANU for prestige.

does anyone know the situation with youth allowance atm? my mate took a gap year and worked full time and was gonna go to uni next year (as per heaps of people do) but due to the new rules he said he's not eligible to get youth allowance, so he's thinking of taking another year off uni (and forfeiting his place, which he's pissed off about)

is gillard addressing this?

theyve changed it so the 08ers go by the old system and the '09ers have a new crap system so it's still crap overall but a lot less crap than it was

Which one/s are you applying to? Do you have interviews and stuff?
My preferences are:
1. Women's
2. John's
3. Wesley
and after that I just put random numbers in because I'm not so keen on the others:p

I sent in my application about 3 weeks ago and hadn't heard back so I emailed them in friday and apparently my 2nd referee report had only just arrived... which was annoying considering I gave it to my referee at the beginning of term 2 but at least it's in now :spin: so nope, no interview yet :p

Are you thinking of college??

I have an interview for Wesley but I'm not sure if they got my personal reference so I should check that...
Did you have to fill out all the preferences because I really DONT want to go to any of the others so I just left it blank...

I'm not too worried about the interview, I had an interview for a college at UNSW and was accepted the next day so I think I'll be fine...

what the 611 a fortnight from youth allowance? Is that a serious number? I'm not moving out till next year, will be 21 in june- Ehh still qualify?
Don't get excited, Idk where she got 611 from but the maximum you can really get is 520...
I'm not a girl you g5ioejrpsdvolkXNJ vbhoduigor-3efkbgj k

Anyway, I've done my research. Krudd is increasing Youth Allowance for uni students. First years get an extra $4000 for the first year. On top of that, all uni students get an extra $2000 per year.
Hence, we will get $6000 on top of the youth allowance, which works out to be 611 a fortnight.
Edit: No you won't qualify. Thought you were '09 for a sec

Also, for every subsequent year after first year, we'll get $1000 instead of $4000, so we'll still get $3000 on top of youth allowance for every year after first year. I like to think of it as an extra $3000 to get settled in.

I'm telling you now, living on $300 a week is not fun.
Naw, I'll have 300 a week. My friend will have 300 a week.
We will both probably get jobs, at the very least pulling in another 100 a week.
So together we'll have 800 a week, which is plenty more than enough imo.

Centrelink will annihilate you if they find out you know

and say you both find it really hard to get a tutoring job, then your on 600 a week.

A 2 bedroom apartment starts at around 250/300 a week, more for a nice one. Then you have food, then water, electricity, internet etc. If you drive, petrol money, if not, public transport. Books for uni can be expensive. This really doesn't leave you with much.

Bahaha, if i manage to get it, 1/2 of co-op would be used to pay my uni fees and the other 1/2 would be my pocket money that'll save me the trouble of working ^^

Yeah, i know lots of people who tutor on the side and i've never heard of anyone who has gotten caught.
