Re: English ESL paper 2 and listening

Loves the Working and Living in The Community, managed to get it done in the last 20 minutes, spent too much time on the essay! Weird how they did not ask for a related text. Though I thought The Stolen Children - Their Stories itself wouldn't keep my essay long enough but it turned out that I wouldn't have got a chance to finish module B if they actually asked for a related text. Listening task was ridiculously easy in comparison to the trial but the last question got me thinking however. It was okay overall. Happy with my paper 1 already though =D

i wrote 2 themes abt my 2 poems.. n i linked wif a related text
They won't mark you down directly for using your related text, but you will obviously lack in depth.

do you think they will mark me down?

haha am i the only person who did question 4?

and for the listening... i found it pretty easy... except i chose A and all my other friends chose C...
i dont think u will get mark down! but aswell you will not get any marks for included your related text. oh well. dont worry about it much. only 20% of the marks.

Re: English ESL paper 2 and listening

ohh I found it pretty ok
It was so much better than trial one..
When I was doing my listening in trial I was like...WTF!???
but this one was much easier I should say....
Our school did Douglas Stewart's poem for module A
and the question didn't even say how many of poems should we use...;
I chose to do 2 and talked about my related text.
I wrote about 8pages,..
Would I get marked down????????!!!!!
Well.........too bad its over now :)

8 pgs won't help people to see if you are actually in trouble because people's writing sizes and words per page differ. E.g. my 5 pgs=some ppl's 8~10 pgsAnd it also depends on how much you talked about for your related text. (e.g. Had I not seen the question, I would have written about 1/2 core, 1/2 related text.)

Year I agree :)) And I think this year listening test is much easier than the last few years test.

OMG!!
I did the realted text as well but i only wrote one paragraph with two techniques coz i wasn't so sure about it and 3 pages on my prescribed text. not sure about my mark but i'll get something like 15 or 14

listening wasn't that hard, i'll probably get 13 or 14

Re: English ESL paper 2 and listening

Hmm, I doubt this.It will be terrible if they actually use people's assessment marks. What if a school makes really easy assessments, giving 97?
From my understanding of the HSC, if you have special considerations due to illness or personal problem, you will receive an estimated mark for your HSC. You will not be able to sit the HSC exam at a later day so it is perfectly safe for you to discuss your responses here.

The estimated mark will be based on the assessment rank of a student and the final exam marks achieved by the cohort.

For example,
If a student is ranked 1st in a school, and he is sick. He will receive an estimated exam mark on the basis of how his cohort at his school has performed. If the highest mark acheived in his school was 90, then he may get something like 92 (if his assessment mark was roughly 2 marks ahead of the second ranked person - it doesn't matter if the school awarded 100 to a person ranked first and 98 to a person ranked second).

This logic applies to all other positions of ranking, so how "easy" a school marks their assessment has nothing to do with how they determine the estimated exam mark.

Ah, this makes sense. Thanks for your explanation (repped)

Good news everyone! I've figured out a way to use two different watch / unwatched overlays so now I can add them to the text-based lists. Update soon!
