Re: Would this be enough for a band 5?

Don't exaggerate it's difficulty. Try looking at 2003, or q10's from 2000 or 2001.
true Q10 was easy for what it was, except majority of the paper was not

nah 01 and 03 papers were not that bad, I mean it was only question 10's... there were some weird questions in this paper, I was thinking of grinding through the first 8 then do 9 to make up for my mistakes and try 10a, but my whole planned was ruined! lol, I got stuck at 4, then at 6 and 7b, I was like what the heck I have no time arghh... + HSC,, they really destroyed us lol.

Re: Band 6 Raw?

I didn't find this paper too hard except that fact that it took a longer time to complete than past hsc 2u

Re: Would this be enough for a band 5?

I liked this years exam.

Every year the hard questions seem to be crammed into Q9&10, where I'd have little to no hope of answersing, whereas this year the difficulty was spread out between the questions, and made this paper unique.

The fact most past papers allow you to finish 1 - 7 in an hour made me paranoid on this paper, the time spread was so much different.

Expecting 95 - 100 / 120,

Any idea what it'd come out as?

:)

95/120 = 93-95%
100/120 = 95%

Re: Band 6 Raw?

Man, glad that test is over.
I nearly cried at the rollercoaster question.
Lmao q7-10 was piss easy compared to that.
Anyways mark for band 6?
Around 80-83%?
i hated the rollercoaster question

hopefully i scraped 1 or 2 out of 5 for that question

What do you real smart maths geniuses think an 85/120 would gain?
I'm thinkin.....85/120 = 88% ?

Re: Band 6 Raw?

The rollercoaster one was damn easy, why did everyone find it so hard?

Unfortunately I had a mental blank on the loan repayment one and couldn't do it... Shit sucks.

Re: Band 6 Raw?

I would be lucky to get at least band 5. Hopefully my scaled mark will be at least around the 80s.

Re: Band 6 Raw?

I will assume that the cut-off will be slightly lower to most years previous... but it does tend to fluctuate a fair bit.

I'd dare say that 93-97/120 would be the band 6 cut off.

I think i got 98, so for the love of god please be right!!!

I got all of the first 8 questions right (except maybe the isosceles triangle one and i panicked and didnt do the last 1 mark of the loan repayment question), then i jumped into question 10 and only got 4 marks before time was up!!! Damn poor time management!!! I found all the questions easy, if only i had enough time to do them =(

Although i think you might be a little off the mark, because i herd the cut off for band 6 last year was 96 or something, so i am expecting (and hoping) the cut off is 90-93.

Also, does anyone know what website we go on to find out what we got?

85/120 = 88% ~ 90%

personally, i think this year was the hardest exam since 2003. So i think anything above 85 as a raw mark out of 120 will be a band 6.
Anything above 72ish will be a band 5

Re: Would this be enough for a band 5?

hey guys im a bit of a rookie at this whole raw mark thing...so when you say like a 70/120 will scale to a band 5...is a band 5 classified as 80-90%?, likewise with a band 6.... if you get like 83/120 if that scales up to a band 6 is that classified as 90+ % even though 83/120 is only like 70%?

Re: Would this be enough for a band 5?

I looked through the paper again and guessed what i got right and wrong, and also gave account for stupid mistakes,

so would a raw mark of 80/120 be enough for a band 5?
Don't be fooled by the people saying 'oh, this test was SUPER HARD, THEREFORE 70/120'

That's just not the case. The test was different this year, but it was only a bit harder than the 2008 one really. Hence the aligning probably won't be massively generous.

Oh, and 88/120 = band 6? No way in hell. That's less than 75%, maths just isn't gonna align that well, stop comforting yourselves.

What do you think a 99/120 would be?
