How do you know from the chemical make up of something whether or not it results in enjoyment or not? I'm not denying addiction, but even if we take your contemptous view of all smokers, even scientists have observed that certain pleasure centers of the brain are activate when people smoke. It is not just making them feeling normal, they get a feeling of pleasure when they light up.
The enjoyment also goes beyond the chemical make up of cigarettes. Many people just enjoy the ritual of smoking.

The point of those examples was that sometimes it is worth risking extremely negative consequences to achieve certain ends.
