What do you guys think? I reckon in the high 60's/71ish will be E4 (I reckon I got 71/120)

Cheers.

I hear the cutt off is usually about 80/120 mark, but i have a friend who reckons he got like 45/120 in last year paper and ended up with 85 scaled.... Which i doubt, can someone clarify for me the approximate raw mark cut off for E3 and e4. THanks.

I have no idea whatsoever, but doesn't a mark in the 60s out of a possible 120 seem too low for the top band?

Also what is the proportion of the cohort that the Board of Studies usually likes to place in the top band? Is it roughly 1/3, like I've heard for Ext 1?

Apparently about 80/120 gets u about 90 HSc mark, then i think 100/120 would get u 110 HSC mark...

Bahaha... Okay,
- The Mathematics Extension 2 paper is a mark -/120
- The HSC algined mark which you are told is -/100
- I believe the cut-off will linger about 75/120

The E4 cut off should change each year; I personally think that this years exam was harder than in the past (I got 82/120 in the 06 paper and about 74/120 in this one), so I'd expect the E4 cutoff will be, as said, 75 give or take 5 generally, and hopefully less this year :p.

I think it's based on scaled marks though; I think a B6 is a 90+ scaled mark.
It all depends on the scaling really.

EDIT: Sorry, my % was about 74, not my mark, which was about 90.
In this case I like the news that 75 raw would be an E4 :D

I reckon mid 70s would be the cut off for E4, at the very most high 70s.

Yeah, ~30% get an E4 in 3 unit.

For 4U, it's just under 50 if i remember correctly.

Same here.

Two people at our school who were getting literally 20-30% for their assessments (incl. trials) ended up getting E3. Our teacher said "God knows how!!".

Yeah, the scaling is unpredictable. What year was this?

what do you think a 90% raw mark for Ext 2 maths would scale to? I've heard the top results don't scale so much which is crap

Good school? You mean selective school? Do you honestly think that a selective school would've let students attaining 20-30% in MX2 assessments continue? :p

The school ranks around 60th each year. Although, we do have a really good maths teacher, which probably did help with marks.
