I said it was valid, because you could work out what each individual was assuming XnXc = carrier female, XnXn = normal female, XcY = affected male and XnY = unaffected male. You had to work backwards.
it COULD be sex linked, but it COULD also be dominant-recessive inheritance

i said thats its most likely sex-linked but not valid, and you can't be 100% sure. and you would need more information to conclude that it was definitely sexlinked

I wasn't happy with the 5 marker on why not all stimuli generate all action potentials. I mean, I wrote about the all or nothing principle and intensity, etc. but that took me all of 2-3 sentences. So then I blabbed on about depolarisation and repolarisation and how this then couldn't occur because the voltage-gated sodium and potassium channels wouldn't be able to open??

devo i didn't even think to mention all or none principle. i talked about what happens in the process and how its a chain reaction, but only occurs if the stimulus is strong enough to trigger enough sodium to go through to then have the channels open

I actually thought it was a tricky exam.

Many multiple choice ones were really hard/ didn't make sense to me.
1. this one confused me so much, I ended up putting d. crap
2. b easy
3. b ..right?
4. a thought it was best
5. I thought none of these were right. guessed A pfft
6. put c right?
7. a right?
8. b right?
9. c right?
10. a right
11. this one also fizzed my brain. ended up putting d.
12. I ALMOST CRIED WHEN I READ THIS ONE. I knew it lowered the pH but didn't know if acid or alkali was low or high. what a waste. I picked c but it was wrong.
13. I thought this was a stupid question. i guessed b
14. b right?
15. this one was also very difficult/stupid. i guessed d.

That protozoan, fungi bacteria table I would have lost 3 marks since I knew none of them. I didn't think we had to memorise all of those.

My other problem was that I had no idea about that 'action potential' thing in communication. It wasn't in the textbook which i read like 5 times. wtf

I'm pretty crushed. Bio was the one I thought would be the easiest. I was aiming for band 6. pretty sure that's no longer possible :(

overall i didn't think it was hard, except a couple of questions ill lose marks in will annoy me, like the kidney, this pedigree validity question, maybe a mark or two in the option...:S

It's in the syllabus :(
The syllabus is my bio-bible
Mmm I printed it only yesterday. My own fault for not being more prepared. Such a waste though. It's not like it required immense brian power. 3 minute glance in the text book would have got me those three marks. spew

I think that our exam featured a greater need to draw diagrams, relative to the previous papers...

My biggest gripe would've been the five marker in the communication section...

Everything else seemed to be okay. I reckon the easiest question would have been the kidney diagram - extremely happy to see that question during reading time.

i thought it was pretty easy
but i am scared that its going to be marked very hard due to the fact that it was easy! (if that makes any sense)
i didn't like the kidney though- what was that asking for i just drew glomerulus and stuff don't know if thats completely right.

hey ... for the question that asked to draw kidney and label three areas of whatever , were we supposed to draw a kidney or a nephron , i drew nephron na d labelled bowmans capsule, collecting duct and glomerelus. what were we supposed to have done????

I thought it was pretty straightforward if you were prepared. A few multiple choice questions threw me, specifically question 14 with the weird rabbit looking things

Short answer was fine. Bit unsure about the validity question with the inherited disease in his family, but other than that OK

Option (biotech) was good, last 7 mark question was a bit intense but think i did pretty well.

yeh that question confused me too. I drew a dissected kidney and pointed at the cortex for filtration, medulla for reabsorption and the ureter for the removal of the nitrogenous wastes

I can't be bothered searching through the previous pages, but MC Q14 - phenotypic changes over a number of generations - Convergent, divergent or punctuated equilibrium?

I confused the medulla and cortex and put them the wrong way around I think,,, dunno if they will be mean and take a mark off,,, I hated the drawings, so much drawing and I felt like writing in big letters that I CAN'T FREAKEN DRAW, thats why I never took up art...
