I know a guy in my physics class whose writing was so messy the teacher refused to mark his trial.
Oh and apart from the writing itself, occasionally my sentences stop making sense if I write too fast. :( Anyone else in the same boat?
Aha, yeah sometimes i skip a few words but teachers usually have enough of a brain to work out what i mean XD

haha yay.

hahahah i didnt even realise that it slanted to the left till now. haha
Perhaps you should watch more crime shows ;)

Hmm...

My teachers have always said "If a marker's tired, and they can't read your handwriting, they might just throw it out. They have to mark 300 pages a day after all.

That's my English teacher's preferred example of my handwriting, from Year 11 sometime. I believe he's shown it to other classes as his definition of illegibility :p

(It's improved since, and on the massive HSC writing booklet lines it's rather hard to write that badly...)
Crazy. I read up to 'metaphor' then kind of got a bit lost.

I've been told by all but one of my teachers that my handwriting is fairly difficult to read. I've tried my best this year to improve it enough so people can actually read it.
Yeah okay so it slopes backwards but to be honest I really can't see what's wrong with it.

Oh and a lot of you actually have really nice handwriting.

It's not the easiest writing to read, I have to say. I think it's probably to do with the backwards sloping.

I can read that easily, it would be fine with the markers too IMO:)

I've never had a problem with handwriting before. I didn't realise it was that big of an issue until my teachers showed me some samples of totally illegible writing that was handed in for assessments.

Is anyone brave enough to post up a sample of their writing, if they think it's really bad?
Not that I think it's really bad, it's just always the same even under exam conditions. Here's a sample from business studies task 3, modified report.

i rekon markers sub consciously give better marks for neat handwritings
+1

I don't think that backwards slope would be much of an issue - 10% of the state should be lefties and i could read it fine ;)

And bahaha, you uploaded a modern response too XD

I'm a leftie and I found it a bit hard to read, although I generally have a lot of trouble reading any handwriting that's not very clear printing, or alternatively my sort of scrawl.

umm...well my ancient teacher said if they cant read sum1s writing in the HSC then they make it bigger and all sit around the table figuring out what each word is......dyu's think thats a load of B.S and they just give lower marks to the people with messy handwriting and give up tryna read it ????????

Woah, neat, but are you able to write quickly with that?

I know I could be a lot neater, but tbh I'd rather just get the information down quickly rather that focus on the aesthetic..
Unless it gets like ajdlinux :p

Anna, I was able to read your handwriting fine. I've seen much much worse from people at my school.

I've heard from numerous teachers that they will try as hard as they can to read what you're writing and figure it out. After all, that's their duty and they are being paid to do it, and they're all teachers with years of experience marking school exams anyway.

That said, less-legible handwriting may cause a bit of a bad subconscious impression on the marker.

My modern teacher had to mark a paper at the HSC once, and she couldn't read a word of the essay. She then handed it to the "head marker" and asked if he could read it. He said no, so they "disregarded" it. Not sure if that means the paper got zero, or a weighted average or something, but I doubt that they'd waste time trying to figure out every single word.

Lol, it's consistent yes, which makes it appear neater. Not sure what you'd classify as writing quickly, but to give an indication, in that sample assessment I wrote 10 pages in 40mins. I remember that I didn't have time to go back and check it though.
