Hey everyone, well the time has come for us to start deciding on what to do for our PIPs.

I talked to my teacher, and she wants us to have at least a faint idea of what our general topic area is by this thursday and well... I'm completely stuck. No clue, whatsoever, as to what I want to do my PIP on.

After a lengthy discussion with my teacher and a few others, we came up with a couple of ideas, but I have no idea where I can go with them, so I was hoping that perhaps you guys could maybe give me some help or direction, please?

Heaps of people at my school are really getting into this Farmville game on facebook, and like everyone knows there neighbours and stuff and they're all really close, so my teacher suggested to compare that to our real life neighbours. She was saying that neighbours used to get together and have street parties and stuff and really socialise back in the 1970s and 1980s, but that doesn't happen alot nowadays, I mean I barely even know one of my neighbours. So that whole 'Love thy Neighbour' thing is slowly dying. People would prefer to sit home on farmville and socialise there rather than actually talk to their real neighbours. That was her idea and I think it's really good, but I have no idea where I could go with that, any ideas?

Our other idea was "Music" - the most non-violent form of protest - or is it? I don't really know where I could go with that either, please help? This whole PIP thing has me really stressed to the max at the moment and we've only been in year 12 for 2 weeks.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks heaps :)

Ok, these are fairly decent topics but i'm getting the feeling that you're not really into them? You shouldn't do a topic just because your teacher suggests it, it is a personal interest project, you should really give a shit about what you plan to research or the whole process will just bore you to tears (that said if it gets to around march and you still don't have a topic, just go with whats workable).

Think about what you are really interested in, what you really care about. Think, what gets you fired up in conversations? What are you passionate about? What do you find yourself thinking about in your spare time? What do you google all the time? The great thing about society and culture is that you can apply the concepts to just about anything, meaning just about anything can be made into a PIP.

The implications of social networking sights on ones education
nah, this kind of thing is done to death tbh, unless you were really creative with it it would be pretty difficult to get good marks with.
A good topic should:
- Be fairly original (or an overdone topic with a clever twist).
- Be ethical (no suicide or kiddy porn guys).
- Be workable ie. not be impossible to research.
- Be about something the researcher is truly interested in.

I really liked the farmville one, because I am one of those Facebook farmville addicts lol, but I have no idea where I could go with it though.

I'm really liking the music one, but that's just me being a nut for my ipod. :) Talk to your teacher a bit more. Maybe you could talk about the way today's music has influenced today's youth to rebel using violence as opposed to past generations where it was a form of non-violent protest? You could probably compare it to different cultures as a Cross-Cultural. Or maybe you could talk about the spread of Western influence taking over cultural ideals of other cultures and the way music has changed in that society. I'm probably just saying what you've already thought though.

My teacher talked to us about the idea of neighbours. It's not overdone at all, and it'd probably be a really good topic. Maybe you could talk about how the media adds to the whole disconnection with neighbours by using fear to stop "stranger danger". That's really rough, sorry. Just make sure you pick something you're interested in and you'll be fine. Don't stress yet. As long as you have an idea, you're doing fine.

Video Games cause violence in real life.
