I cannot get any decent advice from teachers on this one guys. Currently studying 2U Maths, Adv.English, Physics, Geog, Chem & Legal Studs. and want to do Engineering (Civil) at uni.
I'd like to drop Chem as it's my weakest (and I mean WEAKEST!) subject and just do 10 units. Most teachers are saying, 'no, you must stick to 12 to cover your butt'. Someone else said, 'concentrate on 10'. Mind you, this person also said that nothing you learn in Yr11 will be needed in the HSC exam!

I feel like I need to concentrate on the five subjects to do well.

What did everyone else do...what should I do?

I had the same problem , PD was and is my weakest subject. But i kept it and did twelve as i thought it was good to have a back up in case i failed miserably in another exam. A lot of people at my school continue with twelve, and dont find it too hard, or too much of a workload.

But in the end, its up to you to decide how much you can handle! Good luck!!

If its your "WEAKEST", then even if you keep it i'd doubt it would back you up even if you stuffed up in another subject tbh. So drop it i guess?

I'm doing 10 units for my HSC. Dropped one of my 2 Unit courses at the beginning of this term.
I am not going well with Maths-i get around low 50's for my exams, but i kept it and dropped one of my stronger subjects, basically because i didn't need this course and didnt want the added pressure when i knew i could improve in my maths which i know i'll much more likely need.

I feel like i've got much more weigh off my shoulders now i'm doing only 5 subjects, but then i know i have to do well in all of them, of which 4 i can easily get high 70's to even the 90's. English i'm really applying myself with, because i think i'll enjoy Belonging and think i will able to go well with the concept.

Don't submerge to peer pressure though! If anything, keep Chemistry and drop it sometime during the year, apply yourself and get extra help if need be and see how you go!

@OP - you don't want to fail chem if you want to do engineering.... when you mean weakest, how many marks/% is it lower than your next highest subject?

Not too many marks behind the others as I've been slack during Yr 11, but I know it'll be a hard slog to do well in Chem, I'm sure I'd get much better marks in Legal.

School's being no help whatsoever and they hardly ever do exams or mark work so it's hard to know how I'm going.

depends. like that other dude said.. drop your weakest one.
but if your asian you should cope, they always do. and they always get into uni. and get the better njhobs. and the better cars and they also get baseball bats, to fight.

i have friends' dads whyo are in gangs..

but look most of my friends said that dropping one sub is essential... they told me (coz i didnt drop anything) that its not being a seinor if yu dont drop anything.

Don't drop chem, you'll need it in uni. Work hard at raising your chem marks - either teach yourself at home with notes off BoS etc etc as aides so you know where you are going or get a good private tutor (i doubt class/group tutoring will help you because it sounds like you need specialised help).

Yeah, i know plenty of asians who cannot handle doing just 10 units of "easy" subjects =='
