The only hard maths question was the one with the crane because i didn't study couples
It wasn't a couples question... It was sooo easy!
My MC answers
1 C
2 A <guessed it :(
3 A
4 D
5 D
6 B
7 C < not completely sure

Hmm i got 0.3 ohms but i have no confidence in this answer. Anyone clarify what the answer was + how they got it?
i remember getting 300
voltage drop = 4.5
V = IR
4.5 = 0.015R <- 15miliAmps = 0.015 A (there's your problem)
R = 300 Ohms

How is MC question 5 D? i measured the thing with my ruler and got 0.7m (after the scale) which is C

Damn it. >.< I just realised I multiplied instead of divided the Ohm's law question. I still had the right working at least.

Bdogz, auxiliary method.

But I didn't have a ruler for the exam, so I just estimated one line to be just under 7cm, and since the scale was 1:100 (I hope) I went for 8m.

Damn we never got taught that method, what did everyone get for the plane one, calculate the drag

Diameter was 18mm i think by memory?
And yes True length WAS 8m..

Ohh and can someone post up both the correct answers for the drawings? :D

That is where i reckon i lost most my marks, the rest was relatively easy :)

i got 57mm for the diameter i think, in the 50s anyway. for the drag i think i got 250 something?? i think u just drew up a triangle with downward line for weight, an across line thing for the combine of drag and thrust, and an upward line for lift to make an equilibrium. then u can calculate lift using pythagoras or something and divide by 8 to get the drag.

im completely unsure if this is correct though. i screwed up the truss question as expected.

.. Dont u reckon 50 smthing diameter is a bit too big?

And for the Drag question
I did:
i think you where given Drag to Lift ratio 1:8

so Drag/Lift = 1/8
Hence, Lift = 8 x Drag

Then i did Cos 'Theta' = lift/weight
Weight and angle was given so i found out lift.

Then used Tan 'theta' = 8Drag/lift

And found Drag...

I dunno if that was right, but i think you didnt have to draw the force equilibrium diagram thingys

yes i did think it was too big but i did it twice and that's what i got. i remember multiplying my final answer by 2, maybe it was meant to be divided by 2. i forget why. btw, why doesnt engineering have its own exam thoughts section, i always thought it was a popular subject

Why did you divide or multiply by 2?

When you converted mm squared into m squared
Did you do x 10^-3
OR
x 10^-6

because its ment to be x 10^-6

hmm... im pretty confident i got it correct, but there is a possiblity of a stupid error

yes i memorized from previous questions that every area given in mm is x10^-6 but like you said its likely im wrong since a 57mm bolt would be pretty tank, what did you get for it?
also about q9, i put d because i remember we use copper in pipes because they dont corrode yet someone posted it was c?

I don't trust myself to do it properly, so here's the original with dimensions (excusing my very rough sketching):

95% certain it's correct.

I'll add the other one in a minute.

Here's the other:

I'm a bit unsure on this one, I think it might go the other way.

Remember first one was a full section from the front (everything goes horizontal with the base on the right), the second is pictorial from the direction of the arrow, no sizes were given, just copied what was there.

i think i got around 18mm diameter...
I know i got that for a question, but cant remember clearly if it was the diameter one..

but am pretty sure it was

nice sketch. i got confused with that one because i didnt think it gave dimensions for the nut so i just geussed them.

Wow, you got it spot on... Picture memory?

and and if you could be so kind, to also post the answers :D

Dimensions you had to use your Rules...
plate to plate = 1.6D
point to point = 1.8D
diameter = 0.8D
Ect, ect, ect......

Picture memory? I wish, it's just because I had to draw them. ;) I'd do the answers but I'm fairly certain I'll make mistakes as I'm not quite up to par with the standards. I'm pretty sure I made mistakes in the exam on this.

\/ You don't section the web, unless you cut across it, not parallel to it. With Pitch circle diameter and radius, you draw the holes at their actual distance from the centre, even though from that angle they would appear closer to the centre.
