your personal experience doesnt mean shit, we cant assess this on a case by case basis m8
sure if they are with the RFS then they wont be evacuated because they are working lol

yes physical and mental maturity varies, this is why we have arbitrary age limits, and why 18 is considered adult.

how do you propose we assess maturity and physical capability Re: fighting a fire on a case by case basis lol how silly

Im 17 and fight bushfires in Warringah Pittwater and out of area with the RFS. I would agree though that under 12 should be mandatory.

you are an idiot though, not an expert on physical and mental maturity

16yr olds are not mature enough to drive a car on the road on their own, but you are suggesting to average one, with no training, is mature enough to defend a house from a bushfire...

I was around some bushfires when I was younger (10/11 maybe) and it scared the crap out of me. Now I've got a bloody irrational fear of them, and I would have been useless if anyone had needed my help. I'm all for getting the kids out asap.

We all know most of the logic behind RTA doesn't count for shit.

And atleast 2/3 of the world are morons who couldn't cope in a dangerous situation. Don't make sweeping generalisations that people between 16-18 are the most incapable people out there.

The RTA has a lot of science and logic behind everything it does:confused:

Yes, but they are adults and capable of making decisions for themselves, 17yr olds arent.

no i dont
science has said that 18 is a good arbitrary limit on physical and mental maturity

are you saying science is wrong??

obviously everyone is different and some 15yr olds are very mature and developed
but seeing as there is no way to assess everyone on a case by case basis, an arbitrary limit must be imposed

hence why 18 is considered adult

why cant you thick bigheaded cunts understand this

i might be less mature than the average 18yr old, but, i have no been assessed individually and science has shown that on average 19 yr olds are more mature

suck it bitchez

What are you on about

it is a fact that on average people under 18 are not developed enough to make rational decisions

this is why they are not trusted to drink, drive, own property etc

it has nothing to do with personal liberty you gronk, most libertarians will agree that minors will still require a degree of intervention because they are not mentally developed you fuckstick

Edit: even if i change my post to under 18s are LESS mentally developed (which is true on average) my point still stands

Yeah I still don't see the relevance. I'd argue that most people regardless of whether you or "science" has determined them mature enough, should have the autonomy to decide for themselves whether they want to burn to death slowly or stay and defend their homes.

Fuck the government, the government shouldn't have the right to force people to do shit against their own will, even if there is a high probability of that action resulting in death.

Post links to the study please.

Pardon me Mate, I went to Victoria and saw people who have lost everything and I fought fires that had killed people. What the hell is your problem. At 17 you can drive a car, and at 17 you can fight a fire with the right training and equipment.

yes but we are talking children kt

should children be given that autonomy?

should adults be given the autonomy in that situation, a situation that may very well cause the death of the child?

Settle, petal.

I have made my point and my opinion is valid. This is called a forum. Full of opinions. Just because mine doesn't correlate with yours doesn't mean you need to throw a tanty and repeat yourself.
FTW on indefinitely evacuating under 16's!!

I don't see how what you're proposing will be feasible.

If there is an imminent threat of bush fire and the government has introduced this system whereby all children under x age are to be evacuated, how do they impose/regulate this law? Send a bunch of people into a bush fire zone to forcibly remove any children still with their parents?

if you had read my post you will have noticed that i stated "with no training"

anyone with trainging will obviously stay, minors with no training will be evacuated

Then why did you post somthing so stupid about how under 18's cant think for themselves. Sure the dumb parents that think they can defend a property with 3 under 10 kids deserve those kids to get taken away from them but Im telling you now to say that 16-18 year olds don't have the maturity its just insulting to me and others who have put there lives on the line to protect others.

how wouldnt it?

the police/RFS already go door to door advising people when it is time to evacuate

they can just take a bus along with them, and anyone who wants can get on it + all the children if you are staying to defend your house?

not that hard

@ flick, i am becoming increasingly annoyed at the difficulty at which i am encountering in explaining to you lot that minors do not have autonomy in situations endangering their life

Is it the same short bus you're on? Given that along the way they're going to encounter resistance, they'd have neither the time nor the man power to implement such bullshit.

Not feasible.

fuck you are dumb

because 18 is the arbitrary age limit at which you are given complete autonomy (in a perfect world)
