I think we need to give most parents the benefit of the doubt though re: children
Looking at the children who died in the bushfires, reading the commission it appears as though most perished as a result of their parents trying to evacuate them too late, given the inadequate warning signal and ferocity of the fire.
In some cases, the parents had evacuated children to what they considered a safe area, went home to defend the fire and found out the children had perished at the "safe house".
The introduction of this law you guys are proposing is based on the assumption that parents are inherently irresponsible when it comes to their children, but I think in the majority, most parents would not willingly allow their children to remain in imminent danger.
