Hi there, my name is ivan.

I was just wondering if i could still get into Medical Science with the following subjects:

2U mathematics
Adv. English
Biology
PD/H/PE
Business Studies.

At first, i was thinking of getting into Physiotherapy, but then changed my mind. Would it be possible to get into the course without doing any Bridging Courses? Also, what ATAR do I need in order to get into the course?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

Medical Science =/= Medicine

Just so you know. :)

And yes, it's possible to get into anything you want with those subjects.

You realise, like the poster before said that Med Sci is not the same as medicine, and to get straight into med after high school you also need to sit the UMAT?

Yeah, I meant, Medicine is NOT Medical Sciences. They're two different things. Just look at the requirements for both. Med Science is like 93 UAI, whereas Medicine is at least 95, with a median at UNSW of 99.8, a high UMAT, and a high Interview score.

Go to medstudentsonline.com.au or do a search on bos and there will be heaps of threads

Too much info to type when it's all already been asked a million times before :)

Couldn't you have just done a google search and selected Australian pages only?

It isn't all that hard to find this information on the Internet

Yes Ivan, you can get into medicine with those subjects. The University of Newcastle/University of New England and the University of Western Sydney have no subjects listed as assumed knowledge for their medicine programs. The University of New South Wales assumes knowledge of English (Standard). English (Advanced) is also acceptable.

If I were you, I would put UWS (University of Western Sydney) as one of your preferences, because if you're from Greater Western Sydney the minimum ATAR required is 93.00. You can sit the UMAT in 2010. If you get a good UMAT score and an ATAR of at least 93.00, you will be probably be offered an interview. Then if the lecturers who conduct the interview like you, you'll get accepted into UWS medicine.

never mind getting in, how on earth are you going to get through 5 years of gruelling study + 5-6 more of interning/specialising if you don't even have the ability to check the proper name of the degree and its requirments.

I would have forgiven you had you been in year 10 or something

ignore them. some people in these forums have very sad lives and just pick fights on the internet to make themselves feel better. its obvious from your post that youre new to this thing. but as someone else said, the main thing you need to get into medicine is a decent umat. if you go to ' community ' at the top then ' teritary study ' and click on ' medicine ( something something ' youll see that theres been heaps of threads about this, and most of them will answer your question in greater depth, just have a browse through those :) and seriously, practice some umat papers or get a good look at them and make sure you do a few in the time limits otherwise the test will catch you completely off guard, and umat is very very very pressed for time, the last thing you want is to be stumped. it also requires registration and a fee to take part, but all of this you will find in the threads, so go have a read of those now :D and all the best ! medicine is much more difficult to get into than it sounds ;) just keep that in mind :) you gotta be prepared for the work :D

I think this kid might be trolling. Seriously who couldn't just plug it into Google and look?
