The Four Horsemen, Mustaine's lighting fast Pentatonic's with Hetfield's Younger Vocals, Lars' drumming and Cliff bass shreddage makes me weak at the knees.
Kill Em All, best piece of Trash ever released, closely followed by Killing is my Business, Ride The Lighting, Rust in Peace and Peace sells.

The story goes that the guitarist was told to "Play like your mother died"

Nah seriously. if you want guitar solos....
Nothing Else Matters (Live in Brisbane 1998). Beats the original solo. Original's still good though.

Bleeding in the Brain - Blotted Science (fuck, this solo is INTENSE!)

Profitable Killcount - Beneath the Massacre (hows how great a solo you can write with just 6 notes :])

Anything By Cartoon (cuz art funk makes for sexy solos)

Ex-Creations - The Fall of Troy (just before the tapping bit, once he turns on the delay pedal *orgasm*)

The Human Abstract - Crossing the Rubicon

Synaptic Plasticity - Blotted Science - First one (brings the whole song down in mood and is really smooth)

Mclusky - (I forgot which song... I think it's KKKitchens, What were you thinking?) It's just sexy distorted noise in a form you can't put your finger on. It's sexy!

I think Billy Corgan is god. And so does he.

Madness's Zany 'Night Boat to Cairo' (hint, it's actually a saxophone)
John Butler Trio 'Treat yo mama'
Led Zeppelin 'In the Evening'
The Living End 'West End Riot'
Not a guitar solo, but John Bonham being a genius, 'Moby Dick'
Nirvana 'Aero Zeppelin'
Queen 'I want it all'
Smashing Pumpkins 'Rhinoceros'
Queen 'Hammer to Fall'
Smashing Pumpkins 'An ode to no one'
Guns'n'Roses 'Pretty Tied Up'
Iron Maiden '22 Acacia Avenue'
Jimi Hendrix 'Red House'
Neil Young 'The Needle and the Damage done'
And my faveourite, Pink Floyd 'Time'.

Bonham is great but seriously, apart from jazz drumming, drum solos are so stupid

Mine is already gone ^^ (stairway to heaven).

Heres a good song that's basically a solo in its entirety:

YouTube - John Petrucci - Glasgow Kiss - G3 2005

Watch it all, you will love it.
Hell yes, JP is a machine! My fav JP solo would probably be some of his live ones: In the name of god or hollow years from live at budokan and another hand/the killing hand live at the marquee. but far too many too awesome one's to list.

other bands/songs/solos i love:

*silent revelation - galneryus
*ghost prototype I: measurement of thought - scar symmetry
*this godless endeavour - nevermore
*burden - opeth
*spread the disease - marco sfogli (slow melodic one towards the end is amazing)
*counterbalance - threat signal
*of sins and shadows - symphony x

idk, most of my favourite guitar solos aren't necessarily super complex and technical or whatever, i just dig solos with good melodies that fit the rest of the song well

in the groves of death - insomnium

near the end, not super technical or complex or fast, but it's an amazing end to the song and album.
