What do you think about the glass ceiling imposed on women in the corporate world in Australian society.

I encourage it. Woman are not equal to men. They cannot perform tasks that men can do. Why are we trying to make woman = to man when this is not true

I think women are partially responsible for the shit they get.

Especially the ones who stay in violent situations and relationships.

so whos troll are you?

and i think its there merely as a precaution of sorts, men think that women are generally worse at things and hence, shouldnt be allowed to do it at risk of making everyone else look bad and lose their reputation
people should be aware that there are women out there who can do shit, although there are some that are really crap

Why in the IT forum?

We've moved way past this whole notion of a glass ceiling though... look how many women make it big in the business world these days. You will also notice that there are more men in the top jobs, simply because there are more men in the corporate business world all together...

Makes sense by statistics doesn't it?

True. But you must also admit that woman are not equal to men.

To expand on your post, if there is a certain risk associated with a female performing a job compared to a male, PC aside the male should be performing such an activity.

In my honest opinion, Islam has said that the woman is the best person to look after the house. These responsibilities include making food, making babies, cooking etc etc

ah, so its religion

- i think this thread should be moved

women are equal to mean, mentally, possibly not physically as it is genetics that prevents them from being as physically equal to men, it is out of their control

women are equal to men, as they have the same mindset that we have, and hence, have the same metal capacity and knowledge to do what men can do

In short, they know how to do things, but may be prevented from physically doing them

And this is the root of the glass ceiling, men think that because they cannot do something, they do not have the mental capacity know what and how to do it

which is, in my opinion completely wrong

if a person does not have the mindset to know how to do something, then it is their individual problem and shouldnt be generalised to a sex

Still exists in conservative parts of big business, though it is slowly being knocked down. The current problem for the west is assimilating the removal of the ceiling into global business. In addition,

You will also notice that there are more men in the top jobs, simply because there are more men in the corporate business world all together...
the encouragement of women into the corporate business world.

It will disappear one day IMO.

But the thing is that women do NOT have the same mental capabilities. That isn't to say that women aren't as intelligent as men, but they think completely differently. Its hard to explain but anyone of you who has actually talked to a woman would know that they think completely differently to men.
They approach tasks differently and would have a much harder time being a boss type figure. On average (don't ask for a source) women are more emotional then men, and would have a hard time firing people, disallowing pay rises and disapproving leave etc.

lol bloody love you omie (in the most non-homosexual way possible)

and just because they think differently, doesnt mean that theyre not as smart

thinking differently isnt a bad thing, what youve listed there are just bad examples of genetic things, things out of their control

them "approaching things differently" can help people

they have the same mental capacity, which means, that they can understand and interpret things the same as men

how they react to things however, is different, and brings a different perspective on things, and hence, would be invaluable in a business

OP - are you studying Fay Weldon?
Women like her are the reason there is a glass ceiling imposed on women:

Fay Weldon: 'Women would find life easier if they picked up men's socks and cleaned the loo' | Mail Online

It gets 'better' towards the end.
Absolutely ridiculous attitude which explains her having been divorced 3 times. *facepalm*

Don't get me wrong, I'm not active feminist and I fully acknowledge that women and men are not equal due to physiological and psychological factors which would inhibit women from having positions high up in the business world and whatnot. Also, the fact that women bear children has a huge impact on the 'glass ceiling' because having children (i assume) completely changes a woman's outlook and motivations in life more than a man (again i assume, due to the fact it grows IN us)

The glass ceiling exists, I don't see it changing because we cannot change our physiological and psychological makeup.
Women generally ARE more emotional which serves for more conventional purposes: being the carers. It shouldn't be seen as being unequal to men, as being taken care of requires more than just money and a high power job. It requires a woman, haha. :p

Some women can actually be quite unemotional. Something to do with idunno... individuality?

Just as you have some guys who cling to girls like a baby koala, there are girls who value rational thinking over any emotional factors.
