the OP's source is from channel 9, most likely from A Current Affairs, so all this is bullshit anyway if Tracey Grimshaw reported on it
It appeared on yesterday's Sydney Morning Herald.

What special provisions are we talking about? Readers and writers are so not special provisions since I can probably write faster than any writer and am capable of reading.

I can't see any advantage to anything else really?
Some people get to use laptops or computers i believe, that would be of great use - most people now can type a lot faster then they could write, and it allows you to edit your work aswell.

Also extra time with no legitimate reasons could be a very useful provision.

Pretty sure you need medical certificate to verify if you have these problems.

Not only a medical certificate but quite a detailed report and even then the BOS can, and do, insist on additional testing/reports from one of their approved practioners - not in all cases of course.

The computers used a simple word processors with no spell or grammar check capability. You can still edit your written work, of course.

From 2012 I have heard the idea is that all students will be doing some, if not all, their exams online.

i know i am ;)
pfft shut up... no one cares, so you're just admitting to us that you're easy, alot of people don't repect that you know

Drongoski actually made quite a valid point. Rorting the system is common throughout society. I wouldn't limit it to private schools though i would leave it as a general statement lol I remember at school people were trying to find out if they could get considered for things such as bad handwriting. Coming from a school which wasn't HIGHLY competitive, i imagine at schools with greater competition, it would have been considered more.

Have you ever heard of anyone being turned down a medical certificate? They seem to give them away like lollies lol
For special provisions even with more than a medical report (a certificate isn't enough unless it is say a broken hand suffered the day before the exams begin) then most definitely I have heard of them being turned down (even with documentation going back years and after having been granted it for the SC).

I guess I may have generalised, but everyone I know that has applied for them has always received them, even one guy who "didn't feel like" going to school anymore (this is at beginning of year 10) and got one to say he didn't need to attend anymore, and promptly dropped out early lol.
I think we might be actually referring to different things.

A medical certificate has to be given if you ask for it and attend a doctor's surgery but it could say something like 'attended my surgery today' with no mention of being unfit for work/school etc.

Doctor's and specialists are asked to write more detailed reports to support a students request for special provisions - or at least for those asking well in advance as opposed to the last minute broken leg/arm type ones.

You misunderstood what i said, when your on a computer you can make massive changes to your work after you are done (eg. move/delete paragraphs, delete sentences you dont wish to keep etc.)

You can do this by hand as well - it is called crossing out and using arrows to tell the markers where to go next etc.

so do a lot of people apply for this?
I have special provisions. Not a scam at all. I have medical problems which impact on my ability to perform in exams. Pretty sure your reasons need to be watertight in order to get special provisions.

yep.

ive heard so many stories about people getting special considerations though
like some grammar schools getting some students special considerations to get the school rank up...people applying for it because someone they know (know, not a family member) having cancer and that affects their performance in exams...

dont know how many of em are true tho

I should apply for extra time during my Maths half yearly's... since my teacher can barely read my handwriting. Especially for trig stuff. Studying with her today, she didn't know what I was writing. >.< I just have small, cursive-type writing. I might just do that...

What special provisions do you get?

Say I write that I suffer from asthma and anxiety (who doesn't suffer from Anxiety during HSC?) what special considerations would I get?
