Re: Parramatta council fights against jews with "merry christmas" signs.

i don't get how saying merry christmas has antisemitic hostilities. you think people saying merry christmas is a way of excluding jews or something? christmas is all about commercialism now, plus i don't hear any buddhists, muslims or hindus getting angry, or even any other JEws getting angry. i'm not antisemitic and will never be but i can understand why some people might be when they meet the OP seeing how you're quite the social elitist pig. it's also quite funny that you criticise western sydney despite it being the largest area of multicultural concentration. now what does Point Piper have? a bunch of aussie conservatives who are probably not too fond of jews.

considering your quick outrage to this 'merry christmas' business i would assume you're an orthodox jew, but yet you support the validity of Israel, and inherently zionism, when all the orthodox Rabbis oppose to this.

and lol at Reddam House johony, Reddam as a private school could barely mean anything to the others that have been here for more than 200 years, reddam is the new kid on the block, which means it could hardly call itself a private school because probably the core of any private school is prestige through a very long tradition.

and i'll end with this, you're a disgrace to judaism, you even make John Safran look good

The Jewish people are racist to Australians. In my view Adolf Hittler was right in starting the Holocaust. Jewish people go get fucked if you do not like christmas and get back on the plane to Israil.
you sure aren't gonna last long on this site

Re: Parramatta council fights against jews with "merry christmas" signs.

If people are too stupid to ascribe their own meanings to the holiday (yes, I used the h word) independently of the terminology associated with the holiday, they're too fucking stupid to be listened to by local councillors or quoted by news sources. Why does anyone give these tools room to breathe? At the very least, chill out with your family and friends. If you want to attach some extra religious baggage on top of that, go for it, but I don't want to hear about it, and neither should anyone else have to.

Michael McDermott said:
All we do is offend the great majority of our residents by this politically correct nonsense and watering down of the historically accurate view of Christmas.
And what the fuck is that supposed to mean?

I really don't think 'Merry Christmas' should offend anyone.. a lot of people don't even associate it with Christianity anymore, I know it certainly doesn't mean anything religious to me.

Besides, it is a holiday celebrated by a large proportion of our population...we are supposed to respect the traditions of other cultures, so why should it be wrong to carry out our own traditions, just because some silly, self-obsessed people get might get offended?

Without Christianity, we wouldn't have Christmas at all. It is a religious holiday, first and foremost. The buying presents bit (which I love) came after. As a result, Christians have the right to celebrate their religious holiday, from memory it's the most important after Easter. If I went to Israel and said 'we shouldn't celebrate Hannukah as a religious holiday', then I'd get pumped. If I went to Iran and said 'we shouldn't celebrate ramadan as a religious event', then I'd get pumped. It just so happens that Christianity constitutes the majority of Australia's population, so really, anyone who says 'christmas shouldn't be a religious thing', they should get pumped.

And I think that's basically what the councillor meant.

I hope everyone realises that a celebration at this time of the year was a pagan creation. Christianity just commandeered it when they tried to destroy the pagans.

So really, Christmas isn't at all about Jesus.

neither is it about the solstice.

it's about the anniversary of Coca Cola's creation of their greatest public relations officer: santa claus

Indeed it is not about the solstice. I wonder how many people know what the solstice even is.

I actually try not to be too cynical about Christmas. Yes, the consumerism does sort of disgust me when I'm forced to go shopping at this time of year. But giving gifts is pretty sweet.

I mean, giving a gift releases endorphins within you and the person you give the gift too, so this whole orgy of endorphins erupts. Wunderbar. Everybody's happy.

Did anyone else find the ACA / Crisco thing a bit sickening? I mean, it would have been fine if it didn't reek of a 10-minute commercial for Crisco, but as it was presented it felt like they weren't doing it to help people at all.

i come from an only child one parent family so we're not much for christmas. i normally get the one present from mum and maybe if i'm lucky a bit of green from some estranged relatives so very unfamiliar with christmas and the gift giving. normally in my 'family' we have a system where we can have our brithday or christmas presents anytime during the year, it just means on Christmas i wake up to a card where my mum has written "haha, should've waited" and it's just another day

Renaming it to "season's greetings" seems a cynical commercial ploy. At its heart lies the notion that by dropping Christmas but still celebrating around Christmas time, you open up to a broader religious and non-religious customer base without losing your Christian base.

That sad thing is it probably works.
