hi. im looking at buying a 13" macbook pro for mechanical engineering @ UNSW and im just wondering whether it is suitable or not... as in, would all the engineering/mathematics/physics software that i need for this degree be compatible with a mac.

also, what are any up/down sides users @ uni have in the past experienced when using macbooks?

Anything that can't be run on mac can be run through boot camp. Is there any reason you need a mac? Because you might as well just get a windows laptop/netbook.

Yeah dude you'll be installing linux on a machine anyway so the mac is the best of both worlds

all the linux software none of the downsides of using a shitty windows box

OH HEY GUYS I AM A SOPHOMORIC ELITIST CUNT WARRANTING THE USE OF A MAC.

but there are reasons why not to use a mac from experience in Mechanical Engineering at UNSW.

The introductory electrical circuits course releases video lectures online and the software required to run them will not work on a Mac.

The statistics course releases weekly quizzes and the Mac users complained they couldn't see crucial images which are part of the quiz.

CATIA doesn't run on a fucking Mac. About three courses use this software.

even the computer labs use Windows XP.
