Hey All,
I"ve had a few year 10 mates unhappily ask if School certificate results are good at determining how well you will do in the HSC:

I went onto the Students online website, and dug down to find my School certificate results:

(As follows)
Test Results
English - literacy

77

Mathematics

80

Science

78

Australian Geography, Civics and Citizenship

81

Australian History, Civics and Citizenship
(Band 3 is just teh lulz)

69

Computing Skills

89

Not even 1 band 6.

HSC I achieved 95+,
So don't feel down about poor School Certificate REsults as they are not good indicators at all.

he's right. SC is not a good indication of how well you go in HSC.

I got 93 93 91 92 87 88
low Band 6's and two Band 5

now let's hope I can get that 98 ATAR

Good point, however, compare your HSC subjects with SC subjects.

You did very well in HSC subjects that are not related to SC subjects (music + business) while SC-related subjects like maths and English were underperformed compared to those subjects.

I did study, however my study habits weren't developed. I'd do hours of study, but not get anywhere lol.

Its sad, I didn't even get 1 band 6 :(.

You should be the poster child for why the State Government should scrap the School Certificate. :p

My Year advisor said that the School Certificate is getting scrapped at the end of this year because now barely anyone is going to leave school after Year 10 since the school leaving age is 17 and there aren't many kids who are 17 by year 10.

A lot happens in two years. Some people improve a lot (hence you can too, with continual effort). So you can't really say the SC are good indicators the HSC. So don't worry.

SC
English 75
Maths 100
Science 95
History 90
Geography 87
(Computer SC didn't exist in 2005!!!!it kicked in the year after!)

HSC
English Advanced 81
Maths3U 97
Maths4U 96
Physics 96
Chemistry 91
Software D 93

The marks are pretty correlated though... but it really depends on how much you work during year11 and 12. If you work hard then a big difference is possible (vice versa for slacking off).

Well I'd say most people dont study for the school certificate and study alot for the hsc therefore the marks arent correlated?

Yeah that's true but isn't the difficulty much more different so it kind of evens out?

Here are my SC results
SC 2006
English: 84
Maths: 94
Science: 88
(i did the above subjects in year 9)

SC 2007
History: 86
Georaphy: 84
Computing: 95
(did these subjects in year 10)

HSC 2008:
Maths 2U : 98
Biology: 94
well maths might be similar, but as you can see with bio and science, no correlation what so ever.

HSC 2009:
English: 87 (exam mark 89, so way higher than SC)
Maths Ext1: 97
Maths Ext2: 92
Physics: 91

ATAR: 98.95

In general, i can probably conclude maths was similar, but the others are way off.
