If you are willing to try, go for it. If you find it too hard you can always drop to General.

you're aiming for 99.8, therefore you should give it a go
it is difficult to get 99.8 with general maths

and if you really want to get 99.8, you need a good attitude towards your studies
therefore, give it your best shot.

also, 5.2 should suffice for 2 unit.

5.2 Should suffice. At my school, to do 2unit you need to at least
- do the 5.3 course
- Or receive at least a B8 in a 5.2 course.

I'm doing Extension 2 now and my class never really completed the 5.3 course because of the all the Year 10 grading tasks and messed up schedule we had... it seemed my year was an experimental one. :)

You will be fine to take up Mathematics with 5.2... it is plenty knowledge, go for it!

You do revision at the start of the 2unit course, so you'll have caught up on what you missed.

In my view:

5.1 --> General Mathematics
5.2 --> Mathematics
5.3 --> Maths Extensions

In my view:

5.1 --> General Mathematics
5.2 --> Mathematics
5.3 --> Maths Extensions
This is generally what happens I believe, but of course not set in stone whatsoever. People at my school hate math, so there are a lot doing General (some even applied) and not many in Mathematics (about 18). 6 in Ext.1 and 2 in Ext.2

Doesn't seem like a good system as your year 9 results determine which course you are doing in year 10 which then locks you into a course in year 11 based on your year 9 results. So if you fuck up in Maths in year 9 you're screwed.

Wow, that sort of sucks for some 5.2 students who are capable of 2U. ):

Doesn't your school allow you to move up? if your teacher recommends you. I was in the highest 5.2 maths class in year 9 then moved up to the second 5.3 class half way through year 9 and then same time around in year 10, I moved up to the highest 5.3 class. I'm now going to do 3U. :)

That's like my school except:
For 2 unit: 5.3 get to do it and 5.2 who received a SC grade of B8 and up.
General is for people who have the grade higher than a D or something.

yeah true that
unless you're in selective, because all of them do 5.3

+1

but you have to work very hard to catch up everything that you missed from year 10 though.

Good luck with your studies!!

Not sure if my school still does this but to be suitable for Mathematics Extension 1, one must get either A, B or C in Year 10. This is really quite lenient in my opinion which leads to at about 100 enrolled in it (over half the grade), though still it somehow manages 30-40% band E4s...lol

Extension 1: A or B grade. reduced intake to 80 students
Extension 2: used to have two classes. Now reduced to 1 class!!!!!

That seems a bit better....when I was there, there were many people doing Maths Ext1 who in my opinion shouldn't be doing Maths Ext1. For English Advanced, it was the complete opposite...people were forced to do Standard who should really be in Advanced.

...and Maths Ext2 is only one class now!!! As much as I would prefer it to be 2-3 classes, sefton is not very crash hot at Maths Ext2...

agreed
they should increase the number of people doing Advanced. The school said that they would increase the number of Advanced students by moving Standard students up they worked well. They lied. :( oh well, the school can't really teach english anyway.
as for maths, I'm happy about 3 unit maths. For 4 unit, they're thinking of cutting the numbers down even more. Only the top 10 have secured their spot in 4 unit.

wow, that's really hard to get into the 4 unit classes at your school. But I think my school might be the same too :(
