Given the success of the last thread, what is your opinion of the position of indigenous australians in society? Are they too well treated, or are they reviled? Is the current issue with indigenous australians indicative of an overarching issue with the welfare system?

What stereotypes of aborigines have you seen and how have the ones you have met differed from or lived up to those stereotypes.

They are less than a percent of the population, yet there is so much discussion to be had about them.

The thing is, the stereotypes all have some merit but the problem of racism is cultural. If I wanted to put down an Aboriginal person using words, most of my remarks would be racist, i.e. Aboriginal people cant support families better than a park bench, being drunk, make fun of them sniffing petrol, they are not fully evolved, etc, etc the list goes on.

But most Australians know about the problems with Aborigines, most people can pull the stuff I said from memory. This is the root of problem, the racism is inherent in the society and its not an easy problem to tackle.

This is my opinion of Aboriginals, okay?

The development of Aboriginals are hampered by the stigma carried by their race. Always being given special treatment, but never just treated as a fucking normal human being. Do Asians get welfare support? How about Indians, do they get scholarships because of their race?

Many of them live in rural regions, where virtually anyone would have troubles improving their social conditions. This is understandable. Those that live in more urban areas usually live in slums devoid of any good inspiration. The void is instead filled with an uneasy mixture of nigger culture and proto-aboriginal-gangster culture.

Most of these people end up being like their parents, a problem which is caused by outright actions degrading the social standing of Aboriginals decades ago, like the Stolen Generation bullshit. The problem still continues because people can't be fucked to commit tangible actions to stop it, and they can't be fucked trying to handle the politically-correct shitstorm that follows anything about Aboriginals. For example, would you want Aboriginal children to be given free scholarships to private schools, and hence mingle with your own children? Fuck no. Im pretty sure you would rather just pay your taxes and hope the Government is doing their part somehow, in a way that does not affect your way of life.

Its easy to ignore their problem because the majority of people who have eyes in their head hardly ever see them. I've never seen an Aboriginal except on TV.

For these reasons I couldn't give a fuck about them. I want to say 'Just work hard and become a decent human being!', but since i'm so apathetic, i'm not entitled to chastise them. Instead, i'll just keep my mouth shut, and experience an uneasy mixture of guilt and laziness.

I think we shud put them all in a large area of land in a remote part of the Northern territory, fence it off and leave them to their own devices.

First I laughed. Then I cried.

That group is basically an acknowledgement or verification of every single Aboriginal stereotype I can think of. Like, everything the average Australian thinks of Aboriginals has been admitted to in that group.
I guess it's a sample bias. Facebooking wouldn't really be considered a typical indigenous activity, it's really only for people with computers.:hat:

9000 people is a large sample :\

The lesson we can learn from this kids, is that Aboriginals with computers talking about domestic violence, Centrelink, Invasion Day, alcohol, smokes, going off at people in shops, fucking the "police", and raping the English language are not indicative of the average Aborigines.

why can't abos live their lives like amish people or polygamist mormons? away from everyone else where everyone is happy and maybe once in a while we come by to pay them to take photos with us.

i've met a few that completely go against the stereotype, only because they have somewhere to go in their lives, unlike the hordes of common aboriginal stereotypes

them, unlike others don't have a sense of entitlement and are more than willing to work to achieve their goals in life

yes. despite the good intentions of the far-letfies, this excessive aboriginal welfare actually makes the situation worse.

I've seen interviews with intelligent aboriginal(lol) elders who have said this themselves.

Mildura's population consists of 4% aboriginals. These aboriginals account for 25% of Mildura's crime.

Only on literally a few occasions have I ever met an aboriginal who wasn't completely and utterly disgustingly feral

Now I'm not saying that it is/isn't their fault given their circumstances blah blah blah, but based on personal experience, most aboriginal stereotypes are accurate

Aww, ghettos. How cute. That idea sort of went out of fashion after WWII.

I think we should have left them to their own devices in 1788. But that's neither here nor there.

Exactly, you've met a few. I've met a whole lot. Some of them dodgy because of socioeconomic status, many of them amazing because they're, despite all the hardships, still in touch with their culture.

Oh shit. I mean there's no white bogans and general idiot Australians that speak like that. No way. Couldn't be.

That's definitely just dirty Abo speak. Not what would come from lack of education and english being (possibly) a second language.

I've seen plenty of bad names in my time. Most of them not attributed to Aboriginals.

Well of course they account for disproportionately high crime, and prisoner numbers. And poor health statistics. And lower education levels. These are all products of years of vilification and socioeconomic disadvantage.

It's the poor that commit more crime, not Aborigines. Many Aborigines just happen to be poor.

I'm glad you don't deny that it's not their fault.

Of course many stereotypes are true. But the vast majority of people never take the time to see the huuuuuuge amount of Aborigines who don't fit into the negative stereotypes at all.

They commit more crimes because they don't understand white fella law, and the police and lawyers make no effort to help remedy that fact.
