Hey people.

im starting my prelim year this year. my subjects are Ext. maths, Ext.English, Chemistry, economics, modern history, and business

is there any way of achieving a 95+ atar with all the HSIE subjects? i would most probably be dropping business for year 12

The subjects you picked scale quite well. Quite easily 95+ if you put in the effort.

Yes, you can get an ATAR of 95 with any combination of subject.

Not only that, but your subjects scale quite well bar business studies. That just means you need a higher raw mark in business studies compared to your other subjects to compensate for the scaling.

TL;DR - You'll be fine

Now that is just P50 for all your subjects. Imagine what wonders await if you get *gasp* a P75 in all your subjects?

So yes, it's VERY possible for a 95 if you work hard enough.

I did identical subjects (-business, and now Ext2 Maths in Year 12). I'm pretty sure I'm going to get >99. It's not very hard with those subjects (I'm averaging low - mid 90s in order to pull a mid 99, but with >85 in everything it is not hard to foresee a 95).

Well, if you are on the BoS - you are probably ranked around P75-P90 anyway!

Hey I was just wondering. Since I have kinda the same subjects as nixon3, should I drop Business Studies or English Extension 1 in Year 12?

So far, I'm quite bad in English so I picked English Extension to further build up my English knowledge. I'm not so sure about my Business Studies as I only picked it for future purposes, if needed.

Business. 3U English gives you like a backup unit to halve a crappy 2U mark if required, plus Business scales like garbage.

Pick up the text book for business and skim through it. If it really seems like you will be in love with it, don't drop it but if not, drop it

Dude, as long as you are good at and are interested in your subjects anything is possible. I did Eng (Adv), Legal Studies, French (Cont), Italian (Beg) and IPT and ended up with a bit less than 95...not too shabby considering I had 3 band 6's a band 5 and a band 4. Moral is as long as you like the subjects and can do well you will be fine.

Mainly HSC, but prelim would be good as you'll have to get through prelim before you get to HSC

wowowow, your subjects are basically exactly the same as mine. just wanted to say that, cause i find it fascinating when i come across someone with the same subjects as me..

Your subjects are exactly the same as mine - except instead of business studies I'm doing economics. I'm going for an ATAR of 99+ (hopefully I will get 95+)

Also, how did you figure out the Average ATAR marks? that was really helpful - but I need to as in economics in stad of business.
