Hi , this is for people who want to Know Information about Medicine.

Firstly, you must sit for a UMAT ( Undergraduate Medicine & Health Sciences Admission Test ) test before HSC.

This test is is specifically designed to assist with the selection of students into the medicine, dentistry and health science degree programs at undergraduate levels at the universities listed on this website.

UMAT - Home

Practice Materials are set out on the site below , which includes sample questions.

http://umatweb.acer.edu.au/documents/UMAT_Info_Book_pp11-13.pdf

They also have preparation materials around $35 which would be quite good for you to practice.

Secondly, You must achieve an ATAR of 95 and above. Chemistry is compulsory. If you havn't studied chemistry , then you must do a bridging course in like 3 months . O_O

I have been told by my Career Advisor that The UMAT test is very challenging. This picture below will tell you all !!

UMAT AND ATAR picture by Samuu_ - Photobucket

This pic shows what UMAT score u need for ATAR's 95 and above.

Thirdly , If your able to achieve the first and second step . "thumbs up"

But , you must complete the final step called the INTERVIEW.

Most people fail this, mainly because , they cannot communicate well , Do not portray that they have a life LOL , dont have enough of a good personality. So Studying is a major role But you need a life/ personality and should also communicate well.

The Other way is , You could get degree to something , not sure on this one but , i think when u complete that degree you can transfer to medicine. If any1 Knows The other way in details Just Comment =]

GOOD LUCK TO ALL !!

Side note: My tutor teachers that do Med, said you have to approach the multiple choice differently. In the UMAT not all the answers maybe correct, some are more precise than others and you work it out through your powers of deduction and reasoning.

Don't we sit the test next year, anyways?

About the interview: you need to demonstrate intelligence both emotionally and academically. You may be asked tough "what would you do if..." questions. You need to consider the possibilities before the interview and demonstrate that as well as having great grades and a good UMAT score that you can cope emotionally with the demands of medicine and have people skills. These include caring for others, putting their needs first and ethical behaviour.

Universities also offer graduate medical programs such as USYD's where you complete first an undergrad degree and then do GAMSAT, before doing a four year MBBS.

I don't know if you have to do it next year, because I know a student in my grade (a girl I might add) that is doing it this year.

She is full studying for it, and I haven't heard anyone else doing. My brother suggested I do it this year, but I know if I have the time to sign up and do the thing.

Don't you have to miss out on a whole day of school?

I was under the impression that it becomes redundant by the time you want to use it.
