"there are idiots out there who only do the speed limit when its two lane road"

what

people are idiots for sticking to the 100km/h speed limit?

how is 130km/h not adequate to overtake someone doing less than 100km/h

it is not a uniform speed limit for heavy vehicles and cars on the newell highway, you shouldnt have to overtake anyone unless it is a p plater or a slow caravan etc

what kind of fucking moronic point are you making?
not what i meant, i mean they do like 80 in the hundred zone when its one lane then 100 or 110 when its two lane each way, you can't get past them because often the overtaking lanes aren't long enough and there are huge lines of traffic behind them

Any car has sufficient acceleration to turn a merging impact from rear door to boot

If you were in the third lane of the fwy, with 2nd and 1st lanes occupied, on the limit and with an ambulance behind you should be able to accelerate in order to get in front of the car on your left
33kw/tonne.

Acceleration can be measured by lunar cycles.

Acceleration is just important as braking in terms of safety; if you're sitting on 130ks (the limit) you simply can't accelerate anymore = DANGER
This would raise a problem for some four cylinder vehicles if they were overtaking another car and an emergency vehicle etc. popped up in the rear view.

Because you've been fucking brainwashed by the RTAs backwards policies

Your "evidence" was shit...

*First site:
-Its relative to a 60 zone, of course 10 extra ks in a 60 zone are much worse than 10 extra ks in a 110 zone
-The stats in themselves are BS because people who "speed" are more likely to have dangerous driving behaviour in general. If you told all those people driving 1-2ks under the speed limit to drive 10ks faster, the 'relative crash risk' would immediately decrease

*2nd site:
-the RTA conducts speed testing on roads to det new limits: of course this wont work, the drivers are already sticking to a speed limit! A rule for speed limits is they should be set at the 85th percentile of natural traffic speed (ie w/o a limit)... with the current review procedure it is impossible for the RTA to even determine this
-then they "consult with stakeholders," = political influence

Of course speeding is dangerous. But "speeding" is not the same as exceeding the speed limit - it's driving faster than is appropriate for the conditions; and conditions on certain Australian roads justify speeds far in excess of the limit

The is cliche, but a good example - autobahn.
Mercedes just came out in disagreement of our government's approach to speed - they've been making cars since before the RTA existed

I am brainwashed by the engineering and science behind the RTAs policies yes

not to mention my fucking working in the industry does give me a fair bit more knowledge on the issue than some little faggot hoon

my arguement still stands that if you are on a straight piece of road in the middle of fucking no where why can't you go 130-140?

sides it doesn't matter anyways because everybody already goes 120-130 on the roads anyway. Just proving that people don't give a shit about the the limits to people freedom that you want to impose MR Road NAZI sir

well thats funny because i have access to road counter data that shows the average speed on most roads being on or just under the speed limit

no what you spastic

A message to the P-plater who got caught clogging a rediculus speed of 249km/h:

Dont make it hard for other motorists as you are an example to learners
What was he driving?

have you ever hit a kangaroo at 100 km/h?

just because you theoretically can do 140 doesnt mean you should for fuck sake jesus you are so dumb

what if

- a roo jumps infront of you, at that speed you will write off the car and possibly crash and die
- you have a blowout, good chance of losing control
- you fall asleep (increased speeds CAUSE fatigue)

the severity of a crash at 140 compared to 100 is so many times worse

Roads in the middle of nowhere tend not to be anywhere near the quality of a freeway, so 130 is just dangerous due to unstable road conditions and many other factors that you refuse to acknowledge.

So you reckon repeating "I am a roads engineer" constantly makes you sound credible?

Your substantive contribution to this thread is 0

The evidence speaks for itself (both the shit that the RTA churns out and the progressive research that has been done overseas):

^^^^ 80 experimental sites were chosen, 40 had limits raised by 10mph and 40 had limits decreased by 10mph. Higher speed -> less accidents

incredibly good sources, well done

RTA statistics prove otherwise

AUSTROADS statistics prove otherwise

also lol at your first source

"Meanwhile, there's still debate on the Northern Territory's experiment with speed limits. In 2007 the territory's government decided to place a 130km/h limit on four major highways that had previously been limit-free – the Stuart, Arnhem, Barkly and Victoria.

In the first two years of the 130km/h limit, the territory's toll leapt alarmingly above the last of the open-slather years, from 35 deaths in 2004, 55 in 2005 and 44 in 2006 to 57 in 2007 followed by a tragic jump last year to 75 fatalities – the worst for 21 years"

yes

there is literally no possible reasoning to raise speed limits

fatigue is a non issue as most crashes occur on journeys <2hrs in length

and higher speeds = higher fatigue levels

and the drop from 110km/h to 100km/h added a whole 1 hour to the entire length of the newell highway, from vic to qld. that is insignificant seeing as it is a 2 day trip.

Shut up you fuckin moron every limit in existence ALWAYS has some leeway from the theoretical value. If a beam or some shit is needed to support 100kN, they'll make it 120kN for other variables.

In this case, 'theoretically' you can go 140 but in terms of safety and being wary of other variables - you limit it at 100.

with high performance vehicles, stopping power is greatly increased

on top gear, UK highways require braking power to be able to slow down from 60 mph (100km/h) to a halt in 240 ft (73m)

the SLR was able to brake from 120mph, 200km/h within 73m

though it is safe to say, not everyone drives an SLR, so lets replace it with something like a 911

but generally the better the car, the greater the overall performance. im sure u all know this

i would argue it is safer to be doing 150km/h on a 911, than 100km/h on a hyundai excel
