Suspected car bomb found in Times Square

US Police evacuated buildings and cleared streets of thousands of tourists around New York City's Times Square after finding an apparent car bomb in a parked sport utility vehicle.

New York City police say a mounted police officer noticed smoke coming from the SUV at 6.30pm (0830 AEST) on Saturday.

A law enforcement official tells The Associated Press that bomb investigators found propane tanks, powder and an apparent timing device inside the vehicle. The official wasn't authorised to release the information and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Police evacuated several residential and commercial buildings and cleared several streets of thousands of tourists milling around on a warm Saturday night.

It's only a matter of time until one is successful. Maybe suicide bombings will be next.

The car bomb was on W. 45th St., right next to the 1515 Broadway headquarters of Viacom, which owns Comedy Central, which owns South Park. The same South Park that pissed off da Muzlimz by trying to express freedom of speech/expression the other week.

its probs some guy who was having a bbq so he bought some propane tanks. the 4th of july is coming up so he wanted to purchase a timer for a light show he was planning to have at his bbq. he was smoking a joint in his car, and saw a shop window with supplies he wanted for his massive party, so dropped his joint and went to have a look. the joint set a list of people he wanted to have at the party on fire, hence creating smoke. when he got back he noticed that the police were near his car, so he got out of there.

EXPLAINED!! oh, and the powder was coke for the party!!!
