Minor freak-out: How are we meant to remember EVERYTHING for Trials/HSC?!!?! (1 Viewer)

Hey -

So the title is pretty self-explanatory. I'm a pretty good student, but I just do not physically comprehend how I'm expected to memorise such multitudes of information for each subject, times'd by however many subjects I do!
I've had in-class essays over the last few weeks, and have been overwhelmed trying to memorise one topic (or even parts of one topic) for those - how am I meant to that for four topics per subject, for seven subjects?!
I would really appreciate having my soul smoothed right now. One of those HSC panic moments and such.

However, if you really are capable of getting your desired "UAI" (big of a sig fail there) then you just need to calm down about it and just absorb information. It isn't that hard. Harder part is answering extended responses properly.

the fact is .. don't memorise everything. Just try to have an understanding of each syllabus dot point. And do lots of past papers for practice sake. And the same old phrase "dont leave it until the last minute" ..

By the title, i think you're either totally freaked out [or lazy idk]. Well, there should be a way. 09'ers, 08'ers ... etc etc... they somehow managed to remember EVERYTHING for Trials/HSC

i'll echo what maplestory said.. don't memorise crap word for word, that in a way, demonstrates a lack of understanding.

Definitions.. probably yes.

English though, you'll need to memorise techniques + quotes word for word

Anyway, you still have a long period yet. If you really want to, you can start now.......... but i'd pass on that

You've got ages, calm down. Keep studying on a regular basis (and cramming before major tasks, because realistically you're going to have to do that too) and you'll be fine.

Seriously, many, many years' worth of HSC students have gone through exactly this process, learned what they needed to learn and emerged on the other side with good marks and university offers. If you put in the effort you will be no different.

First of all - calm down.

Second - have you made an achievable study timetable? If not do so.

Third - list all the remaining assessment tasks that you have and plan when to do and/or prepare for them.

Fourth - mix 'studying' with doing past papers as another form of studying.

Fifth - be an active studier - e.g. write notes on stickies and put them in places where you will see them such as the main dates and events of the life of the personality you are studying for Modern History (I don't know what subjects you are doing so my advice is based on what I teach) - then as you walk past a sticky read it and also enlist the help of your family - get them to ask you a question about the various stickies. Change them regularly.

Sixth - enjoy the ride and be confident that you will come out the other side.

truthfully to get 96 or whatever you dont really need to try that hard

if you are competent, and are keeping up in terms of topics, you will find that the state/australia is actually quite dumb.

i know someone who did 10 units. in 4u maths, they didnt know 3 topics at all, and still walked out with a 99.6

Well apart from making yourself study progressively (3 weeks before the exam, study some eco from 1st term, next day, 30 minutes of the next, working your way up to 2h total for whatever subject), the only way I found is to actually not study everything. Well, not comprehensively. In business studies I definitely did NOT need to know every bit of information. Same with Chem and with Engrish I suspect they're programming people to not know anything at all Definitely the most practical way is to get your notes, read through, then fit them to past hsc questions, see the dot point and figure out what kind of q they'd ask for it. And for memorising subs like business (or bio, from what I've heard...) just memorise the main points and understand what they mean, you'll know what to do with them after that.

You're meant to freak out and not do good, that way everyone works hard and owns the HSC exams, dont worry if you cant do it all, just try to beat the other kids in your year hence get a good rank. Everyone does badly in trials, what matters is everyone in your year killing HSC thus your internal marks go up accordingly.

Just prepare as early as you can and do your best. HSC isnt meant to be easy but you'll find if your switched on and work consistantly you'll do great.

I didn't take it quite this far, but I did flat out refuse to learn certain sections of the 4U syllabus because any marks I'd get from those questions in the exam wouldn't be worth the time it'd take me to do them. Gamble paid off very, very well.

Btw, (for the OP) as it has been mentioned before, study bits by bits and separated in tiny little bits for yourself to study everyday. Cramming within 3 weeks before the exam isn't going to help. Don't freak out right now because you still have about 4-5 months of time before the actual HSC, and the more pressure/stress you give yourself, it won't help. Well, my advice is study NOW than freaking out
