Is there much demand for chemical engineers in mining, particularly in the gas field?

Im currrently doing a civil engineering degree but have thought about starting off in the mining industry. Is there alot of roles for civil engineers in mining or is there anything i can do besides transferring to a mining engineering degree to bridge that gap and allow me to work in mining for a while?

Bump to my above question ^^

Anyone ever worked or know an environmental geologist/hydrogeologist?

How rare are these jobs?

I know a guy who owns an enviro consultancy. Says prospects are good. Hydro - yeh big miners take them. BHPB are looking for a hydro for newman atm. Personally wouldn't pick hydro as I don't like it but if you do, go for it.
