In February the Greens tried to amend legislation recently passed that allows ISPs to spy on their users (making it easier for the government to eventually do so). The Greens tried to clarify the bill to remove ambugity and protect privacy as much as possible.

The Coalition agreed with the Greens.

Labour and the Coalition then joined forces to block those amendments and further erode Australians's privacy.

i cannot fathemn the point of such draconian measures..

how the fuck can anyone support rudd after this and the internet censorship they want to introduce

abbotts not some sort of political genious, but he's definitely the lesser of two evils in what is turning out to be the shittest elections of recent memory
but isn't it shit that you've got to vote for the lesser of two evils rather then someone who shows some intelligence and politcal wisdom?

Don't be a fool. You have a lot of choices to vote for, at least one of which can exercise meaningful power against shit like this.

As long as everyone assumes they only have two choices nothing will change.

hyperbole ftw
It's not hyperbole at all. Data retention and Internet censorship allow any state to do really bad things to its citizens. All that's needed is the will, which unfortunately is all too common in politics.

Hence, trappings (clothing/tools/features) of a totalitarian state.

I have no problems with ISPs having the data...

Coles knows exactly what we buy, when we go shopping, how much we spend (Flybuys)
Same with any loyalty program (Qantas FF, Cinebuzz, Everyday rewards, any credit card)
Would you want coles to know that you look at interracial gangbang cumshots?
Of course not.

is conroy in a safe seat?
He is a Senator for Victoria. While he is up for reelection this year, he'll be 1 or 2 on the ALP senate ticket meaning he is essentially guaranteed to be returned.

which of you cunts voted this government in
Not me.

BEWARE Labor "reformist" governments.

God I seriously detest this current pack of dangerous commie swines.

Every bit of 'freedom' ever taken, done by Labor.

Polling day - first Labor bleeb that tries to hand me an ALP flyer - look the heck out!

EU's bad, even 80% of Germans want out, Rudds lot worse.

Much like the filter, I don't see entirely why I should care? If I view nothing illegal than nothing will happen and if I do something illegal I will be caught and prosecuted? What next? Cameras on streets recording the speed I'm driving? Honestly its 1984 without the ministry of love.
