Okay so, if I take on 11 units for my HSC with these subjects:
Standard English 2
Biology 2
Chemistry 2
Senior Science 2
Mathematics 2
Extension 1 Mathematics 1

Say I do great in Ext 1. If they take your best 10 units, how does that work? S:

After your English counts (and as you are only doing 2 units they must count) the other results are divided by two and scaled so that Biology would have 2 separate but equal scaled marks out of 50 and so would the other subjects. Having scaled the subjects the lowest single unit is then discarded e.g.

Scaled marks

Biology 78 = 2 lots of 39
Chemistry 84 = 2 lots of 42
Senior Science 68 = 2 lots of 34
Maths 2 = 88 = 2 lots of 44
Maths Ext 1= 1 lot of 45

Meaning that only one unit of Senior Science would count.

They will take one unit of 2u maths and one unit of extension generally unless extension is your worst subject.

They simply drop your worst unit regardless of what subject it is, except if it is English. It is possible to split all 2 Unit subject and then drop that worst unit regardless of the subject. They don't simply take the worst unit of a 3 Unit subject (such as Maths) as those three units could very well be the best so they need to count.

Extension 2 English is 1 unit of English.

If you do that course you would be doing 4 Units of English (Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2)

Thanks, but at my school (I don't know about all schools.)
You do extension 1 English in year 11 and in year 12 this ends, and you do extension 2 English..

It probably is just one unit though.

You can't do Extension 2 without doing the Extension 1 course. Nor can you do the Extension 1 course without doing the Extension 1 course.

When you say that you do Extension in Year 11 and it ends in Year 12 I assume that you are accelerated and doing the HSC exam in Extension 1 in Year 11.

To have Extension 2 count you will have to do the Preliminary and HSC courses in Advanced and Extension 1, including the exams in those levels.
