is the internals of the mitochondria have an increased or decreased surface area? why.
like. in terms of a diagram with intestine looking things squished into a sac, its surface area is increased.

Increased. More surface area= more space for the ribosomes to attach.
thus, more efficiency.
correct me if im wrong
im abit rusty as our school did this last term

The mitochondria has a folded inner membrane to increase the surface area on which aerobic respiritory reactions (mainly the Electron Transport Chain) can occur, allowing for increased reaction rates.

So yeah the folded membrane looks like squished up intestines, and the chemical reactions occur on the surfaces of these membranes, where many proteins/enzymes are attached to it.
