Thats because of the design of chrome. In (very) oversimplified terms what it does is open a new copy of itself for each tab, thats how when one tab crashes the whole browser doesn't crash. It's quite advance and sometimes breaks

fwiw chrome has adthawt which hides them, adblock stops them being downloaded

Firefox mainly, but Iron is good too.

Just so you know, Iron is just Chromium, but with the Google spyware stripped out. Opera's pretty sweet too. Not installed, but I've used it before. They tend to be pretty innovative at Opera.

Explorer is crap and should never be used if you have a choice.

Firefox is much faster, but it also has the benefit of plugins. It is better on all grounds.
