Advantages of Actuarial Studies at UNSW (1 Viewer)

As the thread title suggests I would like to know what the advantages of doing

Bcom(actuarial studies) at UNSW rather than doing

Bachelor of Actuarial Studies (BActStud) at Maq

The main advantage of UNSW is the flexibility - it is easy to change to a different major if you feel actuarial is not for you. Otherwise its really the same as Maq

Only benefit is flexibility. Otherwise, Macquarie trumps UNSW on Actuarial course, far more established and thorough. If you look at the employees at actuarial firms, they are all graduates of Macquarie not UNSW.

I've heard that UNSW's Actuarial program is... quite sad compared to Macquarie's.

Id have to say Macquarie would be slightly better, since they have had that program longer than UNSW. But both are good.

Overall, UNSW is a better university. Though for Actuarial studies - which comes under Business and Management in the Good Uni Guide, graduates find UNSW's educational experience average - and their job seeking success is better as is the starting salary. Macquarie's starting salary is the same and they have no data for anything else unfortunately =(

If you look at the employees at actuarial firms, they are all graduates of Macquarie not UNSW.

True. Reason is that people have been graduating from Macquarie with Actuarial Studies degrees for over 40 years, while UNSW has only offered the course for ~10 years (not sure on exact number).

In terms of number of graduates from each University nowadays, i'd say they are quite similar.

No - Macquarie's program was established 30 years before UNSW's. The lecturer who developed the program at UNSW was a graduate and former lecturer of Macquarie (not that it matters).
